Are both my hatch struts gone?

So last night, I pop the hatch to put the T-tops back on at the end of the day. And the hatch is very heavy to lift, it crashes down hard as soon as I let go. I'm assuming both hatch struts are garbage, however, I want to confirm this. Is it normal for them both to go out like that? Is there any way of checking? I've found a few struts for sale, whats the best place to get them?

If only one is bad, it won't stay up, but they are best replaced in pairs. You local auto supply should have replacements.

Thumbs up

If you can compress it easily, it's bad!

If it's hard to compress it's good!

You can get them for around 22 dollars each. I bought mine from Advance Auto. They priced matched Autozone.

I screwed up and got two for the hood, notice my rigging in the pics below, from Classic Industries. The hood and hatch cant be much different but I paid $50 a piece for the hood ones. I noticed them at AutoZone after I installed them!

The poles for my rotisierie...

Or, how about a piece of rebar...
