Re: A/C cycling on and off

I had a sensor on the low pressure side that told the computer the system had an good charge to kick on the compressor. It went bad, was 35 dollars from GM

again. one last time. you need to find BOTH pressures before can can diagnose ANY AC problem. If you don't you are simply going to be stuck guessing.

The charge is good.

On days that it does work, when the air is on max it gets cold then warm then cold then warm, like the compressor is cycling. I have a feeling its the pressure switch.

What are the possibilities?

LT1 compressors do not "cycle" you need a new serpintine belt. Turn your car on and pop your hood, garuntee you see the belt sliping and kind of bouncing around. (flapping kinda)

All AC compressors cycle when there is a charge or pressure cuircut problem. It cycles to prevent damage to the compressor.

Exactly! Both readings needed. The other things, compressor clutch relay depends on, is signal to PCM from AC **** and evaporator temperature sensor.

Maybe so, but he still needs to check his surpintine belt, I will almost garuntee that's what it is and nobody has suggested it yet.

Re: A/C cycling on and off

That would also be the cheapest solution and it has not even been mentioned before I said anything about it. $8 max fix.

Its not the belt. Where do I check the pressure at? I'm not struggling with you, help me out please.

BTW, it acts the same way everyday now. Barely cool on startup. Cold, cool, cold, cool. Then after about 15 min its stays cold.

YES they do cycle. The compressor cycles for two reasons: if the PCM reads ~35°F at the evaporator, it cycles the A/C clutch, or if the high side pressure goes above ~400psi, it cycles the A/C clutch.

you need to either take it to a shop or buy teh correct tools to diagnose the system. If you do it yourself you need a good set of manifold gauges so that you can read the high and low side pressures. Takeing pressure readings on both sides while off and while AC on will help to tell you whats going on. A decent set will cost you about 80 bucks. An AC check at a shop will cost you around 30. So it's really up to you on what you want to do.

Re: A/C cycling on and off

ok, only 30 bucks or so for a diagnosis, I can do that. Thanks guys.

I never get the "easy to fix" problems.
