Buying 99 SS convertible, questions?
I am buying a 99 SS convertible M6 and just have a few questions from anyone who has driven a convertible. I recently sold my 02 Z28 and although I was used to all the power it had after the heads/cam, I remember what it was like stock.
This SS doesn't feel quite as fast as my Z28. Is this because it is a heavy convertible, or could something be wrong with it? It only has 47000 miles. How much slower is normal? Maybe its mental because it's not as loud as my Z28?
Also, it is Navy Blue I guess, but from certain angles in the sun, it turns shades of purple. I've never seen this kind of paint before on an F-body, was that popular?

Hey Chris-
I think the color your talking about is purple? I rember they offered that on some of the late LT1's and early LS1's. (havent seen it in a wile) If not then it's Navy Blue Metalic. and it looks kinda different in different lights.
Maybe it's just the exhaust? It's probably stock like most camaro's. Do you plan to leave this one stock?

Well, It looks exactly like Navy Blue except in the sun if you look at it from an angle, it has a purple hue. Weird, I've never seen another like it. I just thought it was blue and then hmmm.
I think it's a combo of being used to my other car (which I sadly miss and is the reason for this new toy), and it being a convertible with another person in the car with me.
I have told myself I would leave this one alone, but I am already daydreaming about what I'm going to do to it. I've never had a convertible though.

Re: Buying 99 SS convertible, questions?
My friend had a 98 Z28 that was that same Navy Blue Metallic like the SS you're looking at. I noticed the same 'color change' in the paint that you did. Seemed like it shifted to a shade of purple when you looked at it in a certain light. It could be seen the most during the evening hours when he put some fresh coats of wax on it and the reds/yellows from the setting sun would hit it. Awesome, awesome color....too bad he totaled it last month, it was a beautiful car. As for the car not feeling as fast, I doubt it's from it being a convertible. But I do notice when my cutout is closed and the exhaust is running through my stock muffler the car seems to be....slower....even if it is only in my mind. There's just something about a good sounding exhaust that makes your car seem so much quicker! Good luck with the SS, sounds like a sweet car!

Yeah, that does sound like the same color. I'm trying to upload a few pictures. As far as power, it didn't feel like anything was wrong with it. It just didn't throw me back in the seat as strong as I thought it would. I just assumed it was because it was a convertible, and me and my "not so light" best friend in the car. But that just gives me the excuse to start modding this one!

Yup, its factory. Its on my base 6 banger, u352e. GL trying to get touch up, I had O-Reillys call up a special order for some made. Its purple under a street light and dark blue in the daylight. At night after a nice waxing try taking a flahlight to it. Turns yellowish-reddish. My friend had the same color on his 98 GMC pickup. Truly an awesome color though!!

Re: Buying 99 SS convertible, questions?
That car is NICE!!!! Love that color. How much you get her for? I switched from a hard top to a convertible and I noticed that the convertible was faster!! I think it just depends on the car. There are some factory freaks out there!!! Are the gears the same? The only bad thing about the switch is the convt. shakes more. That can be helped with some SFC's. Enjoy your vert!!!!

Re: Buying 99 SS convertible, questions?
Didnt the 02's have the LS6 intake? or something like that? I rember they had about 5 more HP then some of the earlier models if that matters any.
What happened to the 2002?

Yeah, the 01-02 had the LS6 intake, but I don't think the difference would be big enough to notice. But then again this is the first LS1 I've driven older than my previous one, so who knows.
The reason I sold my '02 was because I thought I wanted to get an '02 Corvette, but I decided I am F-body folk! ha ha. Not to generalize, but most Corvette owners are just not my crowd, I think I'll stick with F-bodies for a while.
I am paying $13,900 for this SS, which I think is not that bad, considering it only has 47,000 miles on it and it's loaded. He even has the window stickers, along with the SLP window stickers and it was stickered at $36,000.
I have to wait for the title to come before I can pick it up, so 3-4 weeks. I'm excited.
