Air compressor bearing problems

Hello, I did the search feature but i may have missed what im looking for--Just got my car back from the shop for a newer than listed cam--Now i have a grinding noise--my son took off the belt, noise was gone, put back on, noise is back until car is reved. My son sezs its the a/c compressor bearings going out.Said it was also twisting my belt--Can you just replace the bearings without replacing the whole unit? Thanks Dwayne

Re: Air compressor bearing problems

There are places that can overhaul them but it's usually around the same price to replace it with a new part and be worry free. It may be another pulley though...may want to look into it farther.

Re: Air compressor bearing problems

Also make sure the AC system was properly recharged. The compressor is lubricated by oil in the system. Way back before I started doing all of the maintenance on the car myself a shop had discharged the system and didn't re-charge it, burned out the compressor actually froze up the pulley and started smoking very badly.
