Aftermarket 3.73 rear end build

Hello friends, I have a 94 z28. Cc503 cam head work, tranny build with a stall... going to upgrade my rear as I have already tore 3 out... going to buy a differential, I'm stuck between auburn and eaton... which is better guys? Also as far as ring an pinion and gear sets. Which is a good set? Motive? Richmond? Auburn? And are the Moser axles worth the money? Any input is greatly appreciated esp from the guys who have already been through this. Thanks fellas

With any significant HP increase, and a manual trans, there is not much you can do to the stock 7.5/7.625" 10-bolt. High Performance Pontiac magazine (now filed by Hot Rod) invested upwards of $2,000 in a stock 10-bolt, and concluded that it was only good for an auto trans car, with no more than 450 HP. Not recommended for manual trans on sticky tires.

Yes, people have taken the stock 10-bolt into the 10's... but on the other hand, many people destroy them with stock, bolt-on and minor internal mods.

Read these articles.... they are very good, emphasizing that your decision has to be guided by the end use of the vehicle.

The HPP article used an Eaton diff.

Re: Aftermarket 3.73 rear end build

I had previously read the article injuneer refers to and came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth it. For a little bit more money I was able to get a complete 12 bolt rear end from Strange Engineering. I got it with 3.73 gears. I have the 6 speed but haven't taken it to the track. I know it will handle what I'm throwing at it...and it looks so goooood!
