Re: ac compressor
my 94 was leaking from the shaft had to replace the a/c compressor bad news is if its
making noise you might have to replace everything $1000 bucks from GM $700 from
tire shop cost me $120 to have GM to tell me what is wrong with it my advice is to take
it to the dealer ship and have them check it so you don't waste time and money

Re: ac compressor
take it to the dealer ship have them check it out it could have something going
on with the clutch if the a/c compressor locks up it will so they say send
trash metal fragments threw the system stopping it up if this happens
and you just replace the compressor the new one will get clogged up
from the old trash in system and they want warranty it unless you replace
everything since mine was just leaking i took a chance and just replaced the compressor
before you buy anything have it checked out first

Re: ac compressor
the a/c is something that needs to done by a professional that has the proper tools
like a pressure gage that checks the high and low side, A/C vac that cost 8000 bucks
however people do it there self you will need a hand held vac/pump that sucks the trash
and moisture out of the system i think they cost like 30 bucks at auto zone?
auto zone also rents tools at some stores don't forget to put in a/c oil
and buy a new compressor not a refurbished one

Re: ac compressor
You don't need "Everything" You just need a compressor and a receiver drier and gaskets. If your short on change you can get by with just a compressor and long as it didn't come apart and is just leaking. You can do everything yourself than take it to a small mom and pop shop and have them vac it down than charge it. It'll save ya a couple bucks that way. alot of shops usually wont charge you that much labor for vaccuming down and charging. it'll take 30 min plus the price of freon.

Re: ac compressor
yep the tire shop was trying to get me to i would try not to use the a/c
until you get fixed that way it doesn't come apart so you don't have to
replace anything else
nick has a good point about putting the compressor on and then taking
it to someone and have them vacuum it out and recharge it
has to be better than the hand pump
i took mine to the shop with my new compressor installation and recharge $115
