99 v6- speedo needle now fully clockwise
the car was not happy when I had to drive it until the battery conked out.....the the 2nd AC bracket had broken and dislocated the S. belt.......anyway- would this be the speed sensor.....?...if so, where is it located...?.....odometer works.............speedo needle is resting at 5pm against the column housing........curious situation.......

If the odometer is working the vehicle speed sensor (VSS, on the tail shaft of the trans) is working. VSS sends pulses to the PCM, PCM calculates speed/distance based on programmed tire diameter and rear axle ratio, sends correct pulses per mile to the cluster. Same pulse signal drives both the speedometer and the odometer.

THANKS.....you guys are great......I drilled a small hole in the clear plastic instrument cover over the center of the speedo needle.......inserted a thin wire......pushed the needle over to zero........SUCCESS......the hole will be plugged with a small plastic button.....peace of mind.........jim
