'98 Z/28 Electrics
hello. i appreciate you guys, and any info you might be able to give me!
I have '98 stock z28 that mostly sits these days. over 215k miles on it, but reliable. still nice. (i never could bear the idea of selling it for a couple of grand. my everyday ride now is a '13 charger r/t i bought new when they were heavily discounting/promoting them. nice car too.)
anyway, the Camaro's battery, which is a less-than-2-year-old die hard, started to get low. hesitated to crank. the next time i tried to start her, a week later, it wouldn't. so I bought a die hard charger on sale for 99 bucks, to replace the rusted junk 1970s charger i had, and charged on 2 amps for several hours. the car started.
a week or so later, the battery was again too low to start the car.
so I used the "motor start" 200 amp setting. positive to the positive battery post, then negative to a little metal bracket mounted on or near the radiator, close to the battery. got one rotation of the crank, maybe, and a SPARK. I aborted.
now, with the charger on the 40 amp setting, I get chimes and lights on the instrument panel but nothing else, no solenoid clicks. no radio. no headlights, or a/c. (fyi, the interior lights didn't work anymore anyway, i think it was the bulbs but do not know.)
WHAT HAVE I DONE? any educated guesses from you all?
thanks.
