94 z28

I bought a donor 94 Z28 and want to use everything, within reason, in my 56 Belair build. I had a 94 Z and loved it, all of it. It had plenty of power for me, good fuel economy and handled like a slot car. I plan on using the Z28 stock rear end and know I will have to modify it but I have more time than money and I am going to stay around the stock HP it should hold up fine. I would like to use the front suspension but it's a strut and I can’t pull that off without spending more than it would cost to upgrade the stock 56's. So my question is does anyone know of a late model GM spindle that has anti locks I can put in my 56 and use the anti lock system from the Z28. This is a daily driver and not a show car but I still want it to look good. When I originally had my Z28 I always wanted to take off the body and replace it with a 56 2DHT body and that's what I'm aiming for. The Z has body damage but from the radiator to rear axle the drive train is unhurt and complete.
As for the rest of the Z28 parts I would like to use all the parts from the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, rack and pinion, engine accessories and accessory drive and AC.
I will have both doors with mirrors non-power window, right front fender, right rear quarter, trunk lid with glass and tail lights left before I send the body to scrap.
All right put on your thinking caps and lets have some fun, the floor is now open for ideas, wacky or not. I've read a lot of posts here and I know someone is up for the challenge. So pretend this is your build and give me your thoughts because I know I have not thought of everything

Re: 94 z28

If I understnd this correctly, you plan to install the 94's weak 10-bolt rear axle assembly in the heavy 56 Bel Air? That would be a big mistake, because the stock 56 rear is a lot stronger than the 7.5/7.625" 10-bolt. It's also probably too wide to fit under the car, unless you go to large positive offset wheels.

You mention using the 94's front suspension as well, noting that it would be difficult, because it is a "strut" suspension. That's not correct. The 4th Gens are are upper and lower unequal length control arms. The coil-over spring/shock configuration confuses some to mistake it for a strut type suspension, but it isn't.

And you can't " take off the body and replace it with a 56 2DHT body ".... the 4th Gens are unit bodies, and don't have a separate frame and body like the 56.

Stick with the engine swap.

Re: 94 z28

I'm sorry Fred I know you can't take the body off the 56 and put it on a 94 Z28 I just meant it would be nice to have the classic look of the 56 with the performance of the Z28. You have a 94 Formula and that tells me you have good taste and drive a rocket powered slot car,I know I had a new 94 Z28. Didn't mean to ruffle feathers. The weight of a 56 is about 3200lb and the weight of a 94 Z28 is about to 3400lbs. I know the axle is three or four inches too wide but it can be narrowed for less than adding a posi and disc to my 10 bolt. It's disc, posi and paid for, and with a disc kit on the front end and 3.23, posi, disc rear end I would have a four wheel disc, posi, LT1 56 Belair that gets 20mpg on the road. The stock LT1 is about 285 HP and the weight of the 56 is two or three hundred lbs lighter. I plan on getting groceries, getting 20mpg and picking up grand kids and not road racing. I might be looking at this all wrong but I don't want 800hp and a 9" rear end, I got all that out of my system 30 years ago. But thanks for the post
