93-97 Z28- Auto vs Manual - Which is faster?

First of all, I apologize for the newb question.

I have always been led to believe that identical cars(hypothetically), one with auto and one with manual, the manual will always be faster. Anyways, I was wondering if this was the case with 93-97 Z28's? I much prefer manuals,(I quite dislike auto's) but it seems like alot of the people on this forum prefer auto's and are running really good times with them. Anyways which is faster

Well at the track auto will be more consistent unlike manual. But i personally prefer manual, i just dislike autos in genaral. I know it doesnt really answer your question, but if you need more info you can search like someone else suggested

A properly tuned automatic transmission will be faster than a manual, although most automatics aren't set up to max tunage, so manuals are "better" stock.

A human being can never respond as quickly and correctly as a computer, if it is set to do everything properly.

What would you guys prefer for a street car. I might go to the strip with it once or twice but consistency isnt really my main concern

It's personal preference. The reason people say manuals are faster is because there less hp loss with a manual transmission. Again, use the search.

Get what you want is what it comes down to. With the manual you have a tranmission that is stronger out of the box but you can always miss shifts, have late shifts etc. They are the same for every day driving but the manual will have a higher top speed since it has more gears but chances are you will never top the car out.

simple answer here.... stock for stock, assuming 2 perfect drivers in a perfect world, manual wins. In reality, it could go either way based on driver skill.

the end

also, automatics are a bit more forgiving on our less than desirable 10 bolts

Auto is faster on the strip but when you need to go around corners autos are as good with downshifting and keeping rpm's up unless you change the shift points

I have owned an A4 TA and a M6 WS6, both LT1's.

On street tires, it is close, but from a stop, the automatic is faster due to less tire spin. On slicks or DR's, or from a roll, the manual car is quicker.

Re: 93-97 Z28- Auto vs Manual - Which is faster?

back in the past I would say manual by a long shot but today with electronically controlled auto's I say auto. Here is a simple way to look at it, who's faster you or a computer? Also the computer will not miss a gear
