89 iroc compressor issue

89 iroc compressor issue
Morning all. I have an 89 iroc with the 350 and when i turn the heater on the air conditioning compressor turns on about every minute. Seems too frequent. Is this normal or is the clutch about to go out or anything? Sucks when one belt runs everything because I'd like to hit the interstate this next week! Thanks a bunch and happy friday!!

In cooler weather, typically the compressor is cycled to prevent icing in the evaporator. Is that possibly what is happening? The colder the weather, the more frequently it will cycle.

That makes sense. I will buy one of the service kits at the auto store and make sure the charge is at least full.(It has been converted to R134A already). Maybe cooler weather and low charge combined? Ill let you know what happens.
