67 Convertible question
A friend is selling a car that he has had for 25 years. He states that it is a 67 RS SS. I attempted to decode the data plate and there are a few things that I don't understand. I will type the info from the plate if someone could explain it I would appreciate it.

Re: 67 Convertible question
This is a convertible with a custom interior that was built in the fourth week of September of 1966. The NOR 10049 number is a Norwood Fisher body line #10049. The TR 732-Z is the interior trim color of bright blue and the "Z" indicates standard A50 Strato Bucket seats (no headrest). D-4 is the exterior color Nantucket Blue with a medium blue convertible top. The "D" in the last line designates the car as having a power top.
Here's a link where you can learn to decipher the tag for yourself.

Re: 67 Convertible question
Thank You Peterpar now I understand the codes. I have 1 more question if you could answer. Is there or should have there been a code if this is a real RS / SS on the data plate? I am just trying to get my ducks in a row so I know what im talking about before I make an offer on the car.
Thank You

Re: 67 Convertible question
Yes, if look at the link I posted above, you'll find that thereis a "L" that indicates the RS package. The SS package would have been shown with 4P in last line, but because this car is an early model, it may not have code on the trim tag. The link can explain this exception in more detail.

Re: 67 Convertible question
Because of the early production date and the trim tag may not have been marked to show the "SS" option, something else you could look at is the VIN. If the third digit of the VIN number is a 3, the car came equipped with a six cylinder engine and could not have been an "SS". If it is a four, then it would have been possible for the car to have the "SS" package, but the car had to have a 350 or 396 engine.
