1998 SS SLP worth?
Hey guys, I have a line on a 1998 SS Camaro. Car 0007.
Red, t-tops, A4, all stock (2" lowering kit) and torq thrust wheels. 92500 miles. The AC belt got torn up but the guy selling it to me said he'd fix it before/if we make a deal. He also said he would get the car appraised somewhere or at least try to so that my bank loan would work out.
He wanted 9000, he says the lowest he can go is 8000. That's with the fixed AC and with him finding an appraisal guy.
Is this worth it for a 1998 SS Camaro? We drove it and it is fast fast fast. Sounds great, rides nice, just concerned with the price.
Also, does anyone know an appraisal guy/company in Maryland? Even if I don't go with this car I am still looking for a 4th gen SS Camaro, and I would need to get it appraised anyways for my bank to give me the loan.
thanks!

Re: 1998 SS SLP worth?
Hagerty has a valuation tool that may be useful...
https://www.hagerty.com/valuationtoo.../VehicleSearch
For a daily driver condition, as of May 2015, retail seems to be about $10,800 according to Hagerty...

Yup, I actually saw that not long after posting this and was quite surprised to see that a daily driver is worth that much. Glad to see it. Probably gonna shake the guy's hand on a deal on Monday.

I would have the car checked out by a mechanic. My only drawback is you say a belt is bad(or belts) which leads me to believe that there was not enough maintenance done to the car.Have the car checked out front to back and if the seller refuses, walk away. The price is good I think. The 98's were 10 hp up over the 99,2000 and 2001.The 2002 got the extra 10hp from a different intake manifold.I did some homework before I bought my 93.Hope this helps.My02.

Re: 1998 SS SLP worth?
I apologize for being late to this thread. I read the forum from an RSS feed and am a few weeks behind right now. I want to clear some things up:
Last I knew, ALL 1996-2002 Camaro SS cars are SLP cars. There are a variety of SLP options that were available from the factory; these vary from car to car. (EDIT: I now see that you edited after posting to remove everything that implied that an SLP SS was in some way more special than other SSes.) I could see paying $1000 extra for an SS because it comes with some upgrades you're likely to want anyway (larger wheels/tires, better exhaust, airbox lid, better shocks), but you need to check with SLP to see what options it had, since most of those were optional. If you're planning on modifying the car, most of these mods lose value since you'll be replacing them anyway.
With 92k miles on it, your chances of having it appreciate significantly in value over time are essentially zero. It's just another 4th gen Camaro.
Fatdog2's explanation of changes for 2002 were actually in 2001. All LS1 cars got a milder cam and a hotter intake manifold; manual transmission cars got a better clutch. The horsepower ratings were up by 5hp across the board relative to the 1998-2000 ratings. There are lots of other less important changes. I had an old link bookmarked with some details, but the page has been deleted and it's not on archive.org.
Even with the 2001 changes, an LS1 is an LS1. They came with ratings from 305 to 345hp depending on year, model, and SLP options; ALL of these are conservative. The ones rated 305hp were making more like 340-350, and the ones rated higher did even better than that.
Hope you find (or already found!) the right car for you!

Re: 1998 SS SLP worth?
It is a great car and I think that is worth. Of course you should make a full check of the car with a mechanic before purchasing and applying for a loan. Because when the car is old it means a lot in what condition it is and how many maintenance were done to the car. We all know that there some awesome old cars that are in great conditions and worth a lot. If the car is good, then you can think about the conditions for the loan. I can advise you this service https://www.moneyexpert.com/loans/ho...ovement-loans/ that always offers me the best loan offers.
