Question 1997 zr28

Alright, I bought a 97 30th Anneversary Edition Z28, but it's badged out as a ZR28. It's got a ton of mods as you can see in my profile. It has the SS badge inside also, so who knows what going on with this car. ANYWAYS, all I know about the ZR28s is that they are supposedly and LG Motorsports build. I am looking for any and all information retaining to these cars... Thanks all.

The "ZR28" items were avaiable from LG Motorsports, including the decals on your 1/4 panels. Anyone could buy them. I have the original literature from LG for these parts. It was not a complete car, just a parts list. You could pay LG to install any of the parts, but they did not produce a "series" of cars called the ZR28.

Your profile seems to indicate that you have a 30th Anniversary SS, that someone changed back into a 30th Z28. Does the RPO code tag indicate that the car was originally an SS = RPO code R7T? RPO code Z4C would indicate that the 30th Anniversary white paint/orange stripe package was on the car when it left the factory.

My 1997 ZR28 modified from a 30th Anneversary SS. I'm not quite sure who had the idea to do this to a SS, but I bought it like this. It's got a LT1 that is bored, stroked, and blown. 385 c.i., 4340 aluminum internals balanced to zero, Ported and Polished heads, MSD ignition, ATI Procharger @ 7psi with intercooler, BBK Headers, 9'' rear end with 4.33s, Aluminum drive shaft, Centerforce dual friction clutch with racing friction plate, aluminum flywheel, 11.5'' rims on rear with drag radials, 9.5'' up front, tubular LCAs on rear, tubular panhard rod... I think that's about it... I need a roll cage...
You might want to incorporate the basic components of that description into a "signature".

Yeah, my 97 has the 30th Anneversary RPOs, but not the SS one. I am curious if you could tell me what RPO 'R8S' is?

Unless some one can prove me wrong, I'm going to continue to disagree with this. In 1997 the GM code for the "SS" was WU8 (SS Performance Package/Appearance Package - Camaro)
I'm confused by your comment that you have the 30th Anniversary codes, as ALL 97 Camaro's, even V6's, were 30th Anniversary Camaro's there were no special codes EXCEPT for the Z4C code! Why don't you print all the RPO codes you have. Should be less then 60.

Just looked at the picts. I didn't think that the "special addition" 30th Anniversary Camaro's had that rear spoiler?? I also can't imagine anyone doing this to a "special addition" as they a worth more unmolested!

I'm using the Camaro White Book as the source document. It indicates that the change to SS = RPO WU8 was made in 1998. The writeup indicates this corresponded to the switch from the cars being sent to SLP in LaSalle for the conversion, to making it an "in-house" option.

I apologize it this information is erroneous... I was just trying to help, and apparently the White Book has even more errors than I have already found.

Also not sure why you are directing your criticism of the OP's comments on the 30th Anniversary codes towards me. I just provided him with the Z4C RPO information, and I though my description of what it included was fairly accurate. If that also is in error, let me know.

All of the '97 Camaros are 30th Anniversary cars. I was referring to the 30th Anniversary EDITION cars, which are not even close to all of them. The spoiler and ground effects kit were part of the ZR28 package. No 4th gen came from the factory with an altered spoiler. The Z28 spoiler. SLP changed the spoilers for the SS cars, and that's it to the best of my knowledge.

No one said that he did any of those things listed to that car...it was bought like that..i kno what he paid for it and it was a steal either way...but we agree its worth more and is way better to be unmolested...

Well I probably should have broken this into two post, but I didn't think it was that confussing. Sorry!
And I think you've misunderstood. I don't have any implicit evidence that the code changed in 97 and not in 98. But, every 97 SS that I have seen or we have had discussions about have had the WU8 code. My 97 SS has an SLP release date of 8/6/96, which means it had to have been built by GM no later then July 96. This is very early in the production run and I have the WU8 code. I also have an R7A & R7T codes, which my research indicates are SLP sales items?? I suppose this will remain confused for some time, particularly IF the White Book is wrong.
P.S. It get worse! Now that I think about it, IF the SS code change in 98 and not 97, why would any 97 have a WU8 code? What would it signify? Why would any 97 have both WU8 and R7T if they mean the same thing?

Still confused! Are you saying you have the Z4C? Do you have any of the other codes, R7T, WU8, etc.???

Yeah, I have the Z4C RPO, but not the WU8. It has a 'SS' badge on the center console, but as me and Injuneer were talking about, neither of the possible 'SS' RPO distinctions. Which I found yesterday to be the WU8.
