1993 auto with low miles now won't shift!

Car is completely stock, 1993 LT1 w/auto Trans, 65k miles. Car had been sitting in extreme cold for 3-5 days, temps warmed up to 40 so I took it out last Saturday. Drove it ten miles and it shifted fine, on the drive back a couple hours later, no overdrive for first 7 miles. Pulled over, put in park, shifted back into drive and drove last two miles home but now it only would go into second gear, and shifted at around 4k. If you let off at 4k, motor drops down to idle instantly- Not like normal where it would engine brake and slow the car down.

Tried shifting manually and got same results.

Fluid looks good and is not burnt smell- proper level. I tried driving about a half mile a couple times since- one time it wouldnt leave first, the other it shifted into second at around 4k.

I've read a lot about TV cable adjustments. It seems adjusted right. Anything else I can check??

Re: 1993 auto with low miles now won't shift!

Since nobody else chimed in I thought I'd give a couple of thoughts.Has any work been done to or around the throttle body are where the trans valve cable is?I read it is adjustable, but I'm afraid I'd screw it up if I touched the darn thing. There is suppose to be an adjustment there somewhere. Also,I read if the car has a shift kit in the trans there could be issues.Did the previous owner mess with the trans? There use to be a lot of trans folks here, but that was years ago.All I know is that if the trans isn't shifting right, that means fluid isn't going to the right place at the right time.I'd get it checked out pronto.My02.Hope this helps.

I pressed the top of the tv cable, pushed in the adjustment, pressed the throttle all the way and no clicks. The cable just slides through the same as it did before. From what I have read, there should be clicking as it adjusts? Right?

Re: 1993 auto with low miles now won't shift!

The fluid looks good as you say so is it red? When was the trans fluid changed last?Just trying to help. The car has low mileage for the year, and the trans fluid dies real quick over the years just sittin. The manual says to change the fluid every 100,000 mi.But, that's if the car is driven normally.Well, with such low mileage,My guess is the trans fluid may or may not have been changed.I would get a trans service done pronto.My02.(I don't care what it smells like).Hope this helps.

Since the 4L60 used in the 93 is not computer controlled (except for converter lockup), there are no codes set in the ECM for anything but TCC lockup. DTC 27 for quad driver #2 applies to the TCC lockup.

We have a trans builder that sometimes checks in on the "Drivetrain" forum, although I haven't seen him in a while. I could move the post to that forum if you want.

Re: 1993 auto with low miles now won't shift!

I tried adjusting the TV cable. I pressed the release, pushed it back in, opened the throttle all the way and NO CLICK. The cable just slid through the adjuster and back through it as the throttle opened and closed.

Does anyone have a TV cable from a 93 Z28 or TA I can try in my car?

When you pressed the release tab,did you take your finger off it immediately?
I had to watch the video 5 times for it to sink into my brain. If you hold down the tap too long it will not lock and there will be no click click click.Hope this helps.

Bought a transgo kit for valve body. Went to put car on trailer to take to shop with a lift and it shifts ok. Going to put kit in anyway, I'm thinking it must have been stuck valve
