Your ideas for this....?
I have a stock 94 z28. Im going to rebuild it or just buy a 383 to put in my car and do the heads and custom cam. Then tranny and 12 bolt rearend.
Since Im giving alittle background to what my ideas are, i was looking at the MSD catalog yesterday, and Im curious if there are somethings in their I need? Im new to the ignition area so Im really gonna need some help on this....
Thanks,
Jack

Probably not much in there, **IF** your stock ignition is healthy.
If you have not replaced anything in the 14 years since the car was new, a new coil would be a good idea. And, depending on the mileage, you may want to replace the Optispark distributor. But with regard to the Opti, the MSD unit doesn't seem to be a whole lot better than the stock AC/Delco (aka Delphi) unit. A new set of plug wires wouldn't be a bad idea, and the MSD 8.5mm SuperConductors are very good.

Well im the 2nd owner so not sure if anything been changed. I dont think so. It has 104K miles on it. What will the super conductor do? Also, how about the coils? Im new to the ignition part.

Injuneer's point when he mentioned replacing those stock ignition parts is that at 100K miles, those compnents can become weak or worn out and may cause the car to be down slightly on power. Or, since most of the ignition parts are considered "maintenance items", they have been known to fail with age. Without a good sound ignition system, you will be leaving some power on the table. Despite the Opti-sparks somewhat shakey or unreliable reputation, when you have an Opti-spark system that is in good condition, it's probably as good as any other stock ignition system.
Once you start exceeding the stock hp numbers and begin making more power with your LT-1, then you really need to consider ignition and fuel system upgrades.
The stock coil and ignition wires work well, but if you are going to spend the money to replace them, consider "upgrading" to a known good aftermarket coil and/or wires as they are probably better built and are designed to deliver a little more performance. Hope this helps.
