No start and no dash power

Hey everyone so i encountered a problem yesterday and had to figure
out on my own what the hell was the problem.
So a wire burned up uder my dash i notice the to of the harness was changed
before, the wire that burned stop my dash and ignition from working but i can turn my key to the start
position and nothing happens, basiclly what im asking is what harrness/wire did i burn up to make this happen
and how can i prevent this from ever happening in the future?

Re: No start and no dash power

What color is the wire and what is it (or was it) attached to?

Appears you are saying you have no power when you turn the key to "run" or to "start". That might indicate the wire was supplying 12V to the ignition switch.

Shoebox has the wiring diagram and a description of ignition switch problems in his writeup on replacing the ignition switch.

Re: No start and no dash power

Stock wiring should carry the load. You need to find out what increased the current draw through those wires to cause them to burn up. You also might want to check the fusible link that supplies power to the ignition switch.

This diagram (should be basically the same for 94) shows the pink, brown, and orange wires at the ignition switch, and what they supply. Not sure what condition would cause all three wires to burn up, since each wire supplies a different set of electrical loads.
