New starter?

Hello, my 96 z28 has been giving me problems starting the last couple weeks. When i turn on the ignition i have plenty of voltage, but when i turn to start position i just hear a click, then another click when i release the key. I would just let it sit for a minute, then it would fire up. However, now it won't start at all. Opinions?

I'm not made of cash so id like a little confidence that the starter is infact the issue here before i go out and buy one. Thank you.

Re: New starter?

Have you examined the battery terminals and main wires to assure that there is no buildup of corrosion, or wire strands deteriorating? You can get the voltage through the corrosion when there's no load on the system, but turn the key to "start" and corroded terminals and wires become giant resistors and the system can not supply the high amperage required to activate the starter.
