LT1 Fuel Pump Troubleshooting
Car ran fine yesterday, got in it today and it wouldn't start. Stuttered a bit but wouldn't fire. Sprayed a little ether in it and it fired up but is really weak. Not much over 2000 rpm's.
Setting codes 0171 and 0174 (lean on both banks)...
Ignition-on fuel pressure 15psi as well as with engine idling. Remove the regulator vacuum hose and it bumps to a whopping 17psi.
Took it for a short drive and it did run ok a couple of times. I could run it up to 5,000 rpm's but then it would go right back to its "I'm not going to do more than 2,000 rpm's" attitude. Meaning, it seems like it might be making good pressure occasionally.
I'm going to, of course, replace the filter first out of desperation and false hope. I've had the car for almost 10 years (about 70,000 miles) and as far as I know the filter and pump are both original. For sure I have not replaced either since I've owned the car.
Opinions? Witchcraft? Prayer? I know how much work it is to replace the pump...

You need a new pump it sounds like. The fuel filter has a ton of miles, so of course replace that first. Pray the last owner did the trap door method. Witchcraft only works on Fords
