i have changed my opti and it has about 50 miles on it.I was driving around yesterday and the car started jumping then cut off I got it to run again until I got home.So I let it cool down and started it again then it cut off in about 3 seconds after it was cooled.I checked the code that it threw out and it was P1371 which it said ignition or misfire.Would that be the opti again I mean this is the fourth one that I have changed and I dont even have 23,000 miles on the car.I have put a new water pump on it so that has been taken care of.Also is there any way that these things could short out.

What specifically went wrong on the first 3 Opti's? What brand replacements are you buying - new or rebuilt?

the other three just stopped working all together just ran good then went to start up and nothing and they were acdelco optis

Have you tried changing the coil? My car acted like someone was turning the key off and on and off and on and then OFF! It was my MSD ignition coil. I replaced it with my stock coil and have not had any problems since.

Four opti's in 23,000miles is not normal(especially if they were AC Delco units). I've only used two in 13 years(75,000+ miles) and the first one never quit....I changed it out as preventive maintenance....still have the old one as a backup.

Something must be killing them if they all were indeed bad. Have you watched the troubleshooting video in the sticky opti thread in the LT1 forum? Are your vent lines in good condition and working properly(the video will show you how to troubleshoot them)? If they become plugged the engine can pull a strong enough vacuum to collapse the cap to the top of the rotor and cause shorting. As the others mentioned, are you using any type of aftermarket ignition parts or boosters?

Havn't messed with the timing at all and have just bolt ons but now hot coil or anything like that

"Stopped working"???? What does that mean? Was it the optical section or the high voltage section? Did you have any codes? Any indication of a problem with the length of the cam dowel pin? Any corrosion or pin damage on the harness connector?

that means there wasn't any fire.but now it will start but will cut right back off.The first 3 times there were no codes but this time it threw a P1371 code which says ignition or misfire and that usally means the optispark.I had the inline filter on backwards or the mechanic did.I noticed that today after watching a video on it.It is the filter that supplys air to the optispark.I wonder if maybe that has been my problem the whole time.

P1371 ONLY applies to the Opti. Has nothing to do with "misfire". It means the PCM could not find the low resolution pulse signal from the optical cam position sensor in the Opti. When the PCM sets that code, it disables the fuel system. If you have the code and the engine is running, it's a stored code. The PCM needs the cam position signal to time the sequential fuel injection and spark relative to TDC for each cylinder.

In addition to a failing optical sensor, it may also result from a damaged or corroded harness connector.

Thats what I was thinking but Im not an experensed mechanic so didn't want to sound like an idiot on here.But thanks for your help and I am going to change the harness also and Im going with the ltcc also just so I can take care of that problem and be able to turn timing back for nitrious

The LTCC still requires a healthy cam position sensor in the Opti. A box like the MSD Digital-6 will retard the spark and has several other critical features you need with a nitrous system.

The LTCC is great system, but make sure you understand how it works.

Ok I hope by changing the whole harness that will fix my problem.but I am running out of options here

O and do you think that the cap could be bad I just did a rebuild kit this last time
