ICM ground glowing hot

ICM ground glowing hot
Ive had starting issues with my car and have been arcing the starter with the key on the run position to bypass the problem. I did this the other day and noticed the icm ground wire was glowing red. Could the no start issue be due to the fact that that ground is bad causing it to get very hot?
Also, Im going to reground it and replace that wire. Do i need to make sure i get the same braided type or can i use something else. Thank you!

Always dangerous when a mechanical engineer plays with electricity, but......
There is at least one other engine ground. Sounds like you may have a loose bolt, severe corrosion, or damaged/missing wire, forcing the ground strap at the ICM to carry all the current. The 94 factory manual lists these for the LT1:
G100 (LT1) - Bolted to RH side of engine block, same bolt used for A/C compressor. Per Shoebox's wiring diagrams, this is the heavy black wire from the battery.

G102 (LT1) - LH front of engine block, just below head (ICM)
You can see, if the ground at the starter is missing or otherwise compromised, you may have a problem.
The other problem could be that the starter is drawing excessive amps.

Re: ICM ground glowing hot
That strap coming off the Icm also has this ground connected to the same spot on the body. Does anyone know what this is the ground for? I cant find the diagram that has it. Driverside under the underhood fuse area.
Whatever that is could be part of the problem if its shorted out and sending a positive charge i think.

Re: ICM ground glowing hot
Followed it back without a diagram and i think it's the cruise control, which was working fine so i dont think thats the problem. Given i was right about it being the cruise control ground.

Re: ICM ground glowing hot
What would happen if i ground the starter directly to the frame somewhere?
\edit nevermind i just saw the wiring diagram that said the black wire is connected to the positive side of the battery.
I'm stuck.
