Fuel Injection during start-up

Hey all! So my 1994 Camaro Z28 runs beautifully but I always thought the start-up was a bit odd. I've owned her for 2 years now and she's currently around 83k miles. So the guy I bought my Camaro from, who took meticulous care of it, told me he had replaced the fuel injector about a month before I bought it and told me I had to turn the key, wait for the fuel pump to run, then start the ignition. I've noticed though that usually the first time I do this my Camaro doesn't start. I then have to wait for the fuel pump to run once more before starting up successfully.

Is this normal for the LT1 engine or is there something wrong with the fuel injector or possibly anything else?

I do believe that this isn't as big of a problem when the engine is already warm though. Thanks!

Are you sure he did not say fuel pump? That would be a more likely scenario for what you are experiencing. There are 8 injectors-not just one. You should check your fuel pressure with a test gauge.

Thanks shoebox. I was really tired when I typed that and it was the fuel pump he replaced, not any of the injectors. I'll check the fuel pressure and get back to you.

Re: Fuel Injection during start-up

Okay. So I'm pretty sure that the fuel pump isn't getting enough pressure during start-up. I realize that the last owner replaced it, but should I buy a new one or is there a way check and fix the current one? If I do buy a new one what's a good brand for my '94 LT1?

What pressure did the pump prime to? How fast did the pressure drop? What was the pressure at idle, with and without the vacuum compensation line connected?

Without those numbers you don't have enough info to make a decision?
