supercharger or turbocharger? 96 z28
Was wondering if anyone had any input/ideas/advice. I have a 96 camaro z28. Other than exhaust, k&n intake there are no real big mods (unless done before I bought car, but no obvious ones) The cars been sitting for the better part of about 6 months, i just put a little bit of money back into it to get it running smoothly again. I would love to have a supercharger or turbocharger put in it. But know theres alot of things I must do to prepare the care for that kind of power/heat. Any suggestions on which is better? or type of upgrades need to be done first? Ofcourse I want the car to be fast, but will also be used as a daily driver. Any advice would help...thanks!

Definitely read the stickies in the forced induction forum first. What kind of budget are you working with? To be done properly you're looking at at LEAST $7000+ for a supercharger and $9000+ for a turbocharger setup.
Boost usually isn't for everyone. For the budget you would need you could have a pretty mean N/A motor surpassing 425whp+.
And if you're looking for a DD boost probably isn't the best choice for a newcomer to the LT1 scene.

lol very true ... plan on a rebuild sooner then later is my experience .. with any turbo or supercharger i tell people always start from the back first (fuel pump axle drive shaft etc etc etc) as the other person stated 5-9 k is about normal on the beginner side because when you factor in everything else you are looking at about 20k ..... (just think a good short-block could run you a easy 5-6 k) this don't include heads cam etc etc ... and most forget tuning time ... its not cheap for a tuner and dyno time ...
well then again it all depends on your right foot ..... but when my gauge says 15 pounds i have a grin from ear to ear ... its all worth it .....

Well iv been on both sides now, had a 430 rwhp na car, and now building a turbo car. If you don't have at least 10k to play with(mine will be more than that but doing it all the right way) expect to replace every single drivetrain component(stock won't hold) all suspension(brakes ta ect) fuel system and most importantly IGNITION! Mr opti needs to go(unless you trust getting a tune put on it) either way is it worth it in the end? I say yes(even though my car is not even close to being done) other will say they wish they never would have touched there car.. hope this helps.. also as someone stated if you go the turbo route don't even think twice and find realquick on here or lt1boost.com he build mine and many others turbo kit.
