Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...
Just some notes on Sensors, plugs, etc.
Now I have the engine on my engine stand in my shop, I'm at the 'devil in the details' phase. All the minor stuff that needs to be added/renewed will be noted here as I discover them.
Sensors - Since my motor is essentially 'new' and not a truck but a 96 z28 with probably little in-common sensors I've had to research and find what is appropriate.
Oil pan stuff -
Throttle cable bracket -
The same company where I've bought so many nice bolt/nut kits specific to the LS1 has a kit with a new bracket, bolts, washers and correct allen wrenches. You can find them on ebay. The kit I bought was for a cable driven LS1 Camaro and was $26.99 (free shipping) via Paypal. If you go to google and look for "Item 321104078062", as of today you'd find it.
Upper Tensioner bolts -
The same company has these bolts (Item 140969368916) for $9.99 (free shipping) via Paypal

- 2 Pin Oil pressure sending unit - GM 12559781 AC DELCO. Got it from RockAuto.
- TPS/IAC motor - There is a vendor on EBay I've bought a lot of stuff from that has two packages for this pair of sensors. Both kits have both sensors and all the attachment bolts/washers plus the correct allen wrenches. The less expensive kit is $4x.xx and uses generic (Non AC Delco) sensors. The second kit is $9x.xx but has the AC Delco sensors. I bought mine before seeing this ad and I bought AC Delco.
- 2 pin Engine Coolant Temperature sensor - Part Number: AC Delco 213-4333
Oil pan stuff -
- Since my car is an Fbody, I had to ditch the 5.3's oil pan (it's too deep and would drag on the street) and get an Fbody pan. Before the engine was installed, I went and bought a WIX 'long style' oil filter for the 5.3 truck engine. (Buzzzt! Wrong filter). When on the engine stand, I tried to install this nice filter only to find it wouldn't go on. Wth... So I contacted my engine builder and he said the 'nipple' on the oil filter pad is metric, not SAE like the truck version(palm slaps forehead). Why would GM go through the trouble of making these different? Oh well. I got an AC delco PF48 filter for the break in and a AC Delco UPF48R for after the break in. Chris Gainey told me today (3/12/2015) that Mobil M1-107 is a long style filter for these engines.
- The new pan didn't come with a 'low oil filter' sensor (GM AC DELCO# 12603782) and the 90K mile trucks version would be all decrepit (and, like the oil filter nipple would probably be some other thread/pitch <eyeroll>) so I've decided to plug it. I researched and found other guys had done this. One listed an inexpensive NAPA plug for this 20mm x 1.5 item but he fat fingered the part number. I bought one yesterday and the correct part number is: 704-1046. It's $2.99

Oil pressure sending unit - GM 12562266 AC DELCO. In looking for this, I see the Autozone, etc units selling for $4x. I also found a site that sells new, 'take off' versions that are not used, etc but may have minor cosmetic issues that do not affect the performance/accuracy of the units. These are selling on ebay for $11.xx and have free shipping.

[*] Engine Coolant Temperature sensor - Part Number: 213-4333. I found this on Ebay for $13(but the shipping was $6). It too is a new, never used 'take off' sensor.

Dang Chris. I should've hit you up on all this first. Thanks for looking out for me. I'll correct my part numbers here and on my thread on LS1tech too.

12562266 is a dummy light sensor (1 pin instead of 2 pins). Don't use it. Either use a sender from a 98 (12559781) or (assuming the threads are the same) use one from a 96 (19244519). Check Summit, Amazon and Rock Auto.
I'd go with Delco personally. Again, check Summit, Amazon and Rock Auto.
Use a sender for a 98 car instead of that one or your temp gauge won't work. Delco 213-815 Should have 3 prongs instead of 2.
Mobil M1-107 is what I run.
FWIW, the low oil level sender is $20. I'd grab one just in case with the turbo and all.
