Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...
Chris, Do you mean the part numbers?
I can get that for you. Mostly Russell parts.
The 3/8 OEM to -8an adaptor (Female to Male)
5/16 OEM to -6an adaptors(Female to Male)
-6an to -6an union
Russell 3/8" OEM "Y"(Male all around)
5/16" OEM to -6an adaptor (Male to Male)
I figure by trimming some of the side by side male OEM coming off the "Y", I'll have just enough room to mount both pumps. I might have to trim that 'foot' off the bracket at the bottom. I have some Racetronix heavy duty wiring harnesses and relays for the setup too.

I was going to polish the stock 5.3 valve covers at first.
I took a picture of one of them as they came off the 90K motor.
As taken off...
After letting them soak in Kerosene for about 3 days, I used a solvent brush to knock off the accumulated, baked on oil/dirt. After drying them, I took one into the basement and took a 'coarse' sanding sponge up and down one side 100 times. Same with Medium and Fine. Then I took a small 1/4" drill powered buffing wheel and some buffing compound and went against that same area to see what improvements I could get.
Closest edge sanded and buffed a little.<br/>
A little closer....
Close up...
And for contrast as to what the metal looked like before I started...
Unaltered Valve cover texture...
But then I scored these today
Used but in good shape. I'll be buffing these too

Mocking up the tentative fittings and feed/return lines routing.
Looks like I need to order a couple of -8 180 degrees for the front of the rails to go to the FPR. I can use the 90 degrees currently on the front at the FPR. Not sure if the FPR with the FP gauge on top will fit between the stock Z28 hood and the manifold. I have a -8AN "Y" for the back side of the rails that will accept the feed line. The -6AN beneath the FPR will return the fuel to the tank.
What do these go to?

The fuel pressure regulator will fit where you show it at but you don't really want to put it there, trust me. It's a royal pain to adjust it or remove the fittings with the cowl in the way. Also, with the plastic manifold there's no way to secure it so it'll be bouncing around which probably isn't good for it. Check out the bracket made by Dave Childress (if you can find it on his new site, mightymousesolutions.com) or mount it on the driver side fender up by the ABS box (where people generally mount MSD boxes).
EGR Block off plate for the top of the intake

FWIW, I have my coils mounted on the frame rails up by the radiator core support on the TA. I have the coils on the valve covers on the Camaro and I hate them. With the AC box in there it's a bitch to remove them to change plugs.

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...
I do not. Remind me Sunday and I'll try to dig them off the parts shelf and snap one of them in place. Basically they are mounted right where the core supprt and front frame rails meet. They point towards the back of the car and the wires run down the frame rails. Only thing you have to be careful of is to not run them anywhere close to the ABS system or you will get crazy dash lights.
Not mine but this is the general area.
Also, I made the coil mounts with $10 worth of L brackets and metal tube from the hardware store so it's actually a pretty cheap mod.

I think those 180's are going to be more trouble than they're worth.
Oh, found this link also.
Mightymouse Solutions
FWIW, this is how my fuel system is setup in on the 408 in the Camaro right now. It feeds one rail and dead heads the other.
Once it' swapped over to the other car I will run 2 y blocks kinda like this.

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...
You'll need to make a bracket to hold the regulator; a piece of bent aluminum strap should suffice (1/8"?). I would also feed the rails from the back and flip the regulator 180 degrees so you can actually get at the adjustment nut on it.
I had mine mounted similarly. Looks great. Not as functional as you would think with the cowl.
If you cut the cowl out though...
Not to mention if you have to break the system open (and you will to remove it) you get gas everywhere no matter what you do. I had two union connectors on the bottom of the car where the original hard lines met the soft plastic lines that I could disconnect & drain the system and then blow compressed air through to remove as much gas as possible and it still got everywhere when I disconnected the top lines.

I've got a documentation effort going on in another forum for showing people how to use HPTuners software to tune their engines for 2 bar Speed Density. Once I've completed it, I'll post it here too.
