Well, I found out the truck manifold won't fit under the stock hood. I put a 'WTB: LS1 Manifold" and had a reply within minutes.
The LS1 manifold and the attendant fuel rails are on their way to me now.

I know the truck oil pan is too deep/tall for my Fbody so I went to Ebay and found a new GM oil pan with pickup tube, "O" ring and dipstick included. Should be here on Oct 21st.

Hey Jason! I've driven past your apt a few times, hoping you'd hear my loud car and stroll out.

I'm getting close to finishing up all the hard parts. Just gotta get it all assembled and then programmed I think.

Yeah I've been there since Feb or March. Right now, working from Albany, since they don't want me to waste the time driving to/from while we're under the gun on a software delivery. Just working from 7am till midnight 7 days a week right now.

I should be back over there in Rochester in a week or two though. I'll definitely hit you up on meeting. Lots of great restaurants I've been to there lately.
Talk to you soon!

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...

Couple of fuel questions guys...
The new setup will be gasoline most of the time but I want the ability to go with E85. I have an extra pump assembly I can convert to -AN fittings. Will 10 -AN be enough to flow the E85 I'd need for say 900 hp? I've seen guys state they used 10 -AN for gasoline. The 'go to' fuel filter/regulator for ease of installation appears to be the Corvette composite filter/regulator. Looking at the 3/8" piping on that, I'm wondering if that would be inadequate for the E85.

Also, how many feet of braided line did you guys end up using to route from the gas tank up to the engine?

10 AN should be more than sufficient, even for E85. I was running -8 feed and -6 return without problems on 2 340s on 93 E15 without an issue.

Not sure about the Vette regulator. I know people use them but I like my A1000 injected regulator. The ports are already -10 with a -6 return all with o-ring fittings. Extra port for a fuel pressure gauge. It's also easy to adjust. Just my preference. Also, David (Mightymouse) makes a nice bracket to mount it to the brake booster.

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...

Just an update - Nothing of importance but just to let anyone following know it's still in progress.
  • The harness *just* got finished. Over a month but it's a one man shop, not his *main* job (Military?) so somewhat understandable. Just be aware if you order from him and his says '3 weeks' like he told me, double it....
  • The guy that's filing the ring gaps, degreeing the cam, etc, has had a family tragedy(Dad is passing away but is in the Intensive care Unit at the moment) and hasn't been in his shop for 3 weeks now. Once again, understandable and I hope that Anthonys father passes peacefully.
  • I'm surveying things online and trying to figure out what else I'm missing/needing.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...

Got the harness plus a plug n play 'pulse generator' for the TH350. Converts the manual cable signal to a pulse and feeds it to the stock harness for the speedometer...

The box..

Arrived today ...Harness, 0411 PCM bracket and TH350 pulse generator...

Harness with pulse generator in the middle. This is a complete plug n play harness that marries the 5.3 sensors of the engine to the cabin of the 96 Z28.

Out of the box...

The TH350 speedo pulse sensor for generating the correct pulse for the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)

My LS1 intake, purchased because the truck intake won't fit under the stock flat hood...
I put a notice in a board classified WTB:LS1 intake and had a PM in 5 minutes. Got the intake and fuel rail for $200.

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...

Just dropped my built TH350 off at the transmission shop to get a Transbrake installed. My Vigiliante Torque converter is stalled to 4000. Should make getting out of the hole a helluva lot quicker

Also found out that my 8.8 Ford differential can hold 3.08 gears. Currently I have 3.55's in there.

Re: Starting out on a 5.3 Turbo setup for my 96 Z28...

I was talking with my machinist and, after he pulled the motor down, he gave me a status on the 90K motor. Crank good, bearings really good, oil ring land kinda glued. After a bit of discussion, we decided to go with the Callies Compstar forged H-Beam rods and Wiseco pistons and a good ring pack.

Lol.. My "Junkyard" motor has turned out to be something totally different. It's going to basically be a completely rebuilt motor. Ah well, Should be good for a very long time anyway.
