I read the stickied thread of methanol vs. methanol/water.

It was a great read.

One thing I am still not clear on is where I should set my spark timing at...

Is timing more forgiving on pure meth (meaning I can run more timing w/o detonation) or on 50/50 meth/water?

This is on a stock bottom end lt1 making 11 psi boost, so its crucial I dont detonate!

You can run more spark advance with water or meth/water than just pure meth.

Good luck with that stock bottom end and 11 psi boost

ok. thats what I thought.

It seems I gathered (tell me if Im incorrect here)....that pure meth you can run more boost (due to increased cooling effect of 100% methanol vs. ), but less timing.

50/50 meth/water you can run more timing (due to water retarding the combusion process), but less boost (since air intake temp wont be as cool as it would be with 100% meth).

Or am i wrong, will air intake temp not be much different whether its 50/50 water/meth or 100% meth...

However, lets assume I am correct and air intake temp is cooler with 100% meth.

So heres the million dollar question...

Whats better (makes more power). ... 8 psi boost and 28 degrees max timing (at 8 psi boost)

or 12 psi boost and 20 degrees max timing (when its at 12 psi boost)...?

Mind you..this is all on a stock bottom end...

I can't answer your question exactly, but the main thing you need to focus on with stock pistons is not detonating, and for that, you need water as part of your mix. Also, it is not a fire hazard as pure methanol is if one of your hoses comes off and sprays it all over your engine. You might be analyzing it too closely - all you really want is chemical intercooling, not extra fuel, so go with a 50/50 mix and call it a day. And save up for your rebuild.
