help tuning 383 procharged
Finally finished building my 383 procharged and need help tuning it. I am using tunercat/datamaster. I recorded it running with datamaster and realized its running rich and my spark retard is at 12.0 at an idle (which i'm guessing it bad?)
The only thing I changed was my cylinder volume to 778.45 because its a 383.
Otherwise I dont know how to lean my AFR or advance/retard my timing with hurting my motor. Can anyone help me?!

Re: help tuning 383 procharged
You will get the most help on the "Forced Induction" forum. I can move the thread there if you want.
Are you running a 2-bar MAP sensor? ..... an FMU or boost referenced FPR?
Did you check sticky on the "Computer Diagnostics and Programming" forum for a 2-bar tune procedure?

Re: help tuning 383 procharged
I don't understand why would procharger sell a kit that doesn't work? They sell it as a bolt-on kit. They gave me the "optional MAF massager", but i didnt use it considering I switched it OBD1 so I could use tunercats.

Re: help tuning 383 procharged
What makes you think the Procharger bolt-on kit will not work? They are just offering you one way to increase fuel flow, based on the MAF sensor signal being altered before it gets to the stock PCM calibration table.
That may, or may not be the best way to do it, but it certainly doesn't mean the system won't work on your car. And, has nothing to do with whether you are running OBD-1 or OBD-2 PCM. The MAF sensor is identical, 93-02.

Re: help tuning 383 procharged
Your best bet would be to find a tuner or speed shop with a dyno to do your tuning.
Another alternative would be to get a mail order tune which should put you in the ballpark as far as an initial tune. A couple of sites are:
Tuning | PCM for Less
LT1 PCM Tuning - Welcome!
You can also do a search for "LT1 Tuning".
Other than that, do a lot of research and studying to educate yourself on how to tune.

Re: help tuning 383 procharged
There's no point in increasing the cylinder volume in the PCM. Just leave it at the stock parameter. One less thing to worry about.
IMO, check with Dave about tuning a 2 bar MAP car with an OBD1 PCM. He can tell you how to scale the tables so the PCM can actually read the 2 bar map. His user here is DirtyDaveW and MightyquickZ28 on LS1tech I think.
