3 Bar MAP question(LT1)

So, I recently picked up a wideband commander. It has an option to record boost in it's software. Can I just change my stock MAP sensor, to a 3 Bar MAP sensor. Will the LT1 PCM recognize it?

Thanks
Mike

BTW, it's for a 94 T/A, supercharged 383

Re: 3 Bar MAP question(LT1)

I have heard of guys managing to make a 2-BAR work but not a 3.
Believe the pcm can only read a certain range of input so even with the 2-BAR they were losing resolution.

If the datalogger needs a 3-BAR maybe run a dedicated one.

Just run an auxiliary pressure line to the manifold and run it that way. The 2 bar works only because they divide some tables in half and fooled the pcm, so it wasn't just plug-N-play and a 3 bar isn't either. But to read pressure for an auxiliary data logging device, it will work fine as long as you calibrate the sensor output voltage to the logger (translation table) so the readings give you correct pressure. I've done it with my 2 bar that also runs the ign. retard module, and it works.

Re: 3 Bar MAP question(LT1)

Keep in mind with a 3 bar MAP sensor you need a brand new tune starting from square one. The tune (although much better and accurate for fuel trims) is muh more in depth to tune and will require a good deal of time to tune. Most tuners will need a day or two of dyno time and averagely charge about $600. Something to keep in mind.

To my knowledge, the factory LT1 PCM will not handle anything more than a 1 bar MAP sensor. The newer style LS1 PCMs should only handle a 2 bar MAP sensor. I did the 24x conversion to mine and am considering upgrading to the 2 bar MAP sensor.
