2 bar map question

I'm going to be putting a 383 stroker and a vortech t trim kit in my 95z. Ijust placed an order for a 24x kit also and they want to know if I'm running a 2 or 3 bar map. Know my questions are,... Do I have to run a # bar map? Where would I purchace one? And what advantages would I have by running one? I'm a noob so excuse me if these questions are dumb lol

Re: 2 bar map question

You don't have one now. you have a 1 bar MAP sensor. You can buy GM 2 or 3 bar sensors, but you would have to do some fancy programming to get it to work - there are a few threads on this topic. Advantage would be a boost referenced SD tune, disadvantage would be trying to get the tune to work, some loss of resolution, and ditching the MAF tune. FYI, the boost retard ignition amps use a separate 2 bar sensor to take out the timing in boost.

Re: 2 bar map question

If you're going the 24x route the LS1 PCM can be loaded up with a 2 bar OS which is a ton easier than converting an LT1 PCM to 2 bar. Just go down to your local Napa or whatnot and ask them for a MAP sensor for a GMC Syclone or Typhoon. It will bolt right in place of your stock LT1 MAP.

Re: 2 bar map question

I just switched to the 2 bar MAP sensor (ebay sourced for about $42 shipped and came with the male plug too, which I didn't need. The sensor matched my factory harness). The local auto parts place wanted $8x.xx for the same sensor!
Part numbers:
2 Bar:
GM part # 16009886
Wells part # SU-129
standard part # AS-4
91-93 GMC Syclone & Typhoon 4.3 turbo
87-90 Pontiac Sunbird Turbo 2.0
84-86 Sunbird (actually any J-car) turbo 1.8
886, 012, 539, 609, 701

Like the guys said, with the 24x setup and HP tuners software, you can probably get going quickly. I still have the LT1 PCM and I'm tuning it now. Lots of testing and reflashing going on to get it right, lol... Best of luck!

Re: 2 bar map question

Just did a quick google (GM 3 bar map sensor)
This one is inexpensive...
GM 3 bar Map Sensor Kit TURBO 3bar 12223861 on eBay!

If you're running the LT1 OBDI or OBDII PCM, most guys here think/feel that with the 3 bar map sensor, you'll lose too much resolution/definition for the fueling.
