That sucks, I don't know? I'm sure there's something they can do.

My wifes mom sent her a pacvkage and she got the insurance on it. It has been almost a month and it hasn't even gotten here. The tracking number just says it was recieved at the mail place where she mailed it and nothing else. > Im starting to hate our mail system with a passion

Re: USPS lost my package, what can i do?

UPS is great for this! I sold a good hood, it went from Wisconsin to Dallas Texas fine, but someone who works at UPS in Dalas stole it, it just dissapeared into thin air at Texas, their recods show a worker signing for it at receiving and thats the last they seen it. I had insurace but for some lame reason you only get like 75% or so, so I lost like $150.00 by the time it was all done. I dont sell hoods anymore, I always use insurance and I rarely send anything UPS anymore. (I own a custom car shop).

I think all ups packages have up to $100 insurance automatically. Something to ask about, even if it doesn't cover most of your loss . Go there and ask them, I'm sure the guy at the counter will do what he can to help you out.

Re: USPS lost my package, what can i do?

well i just got back from the post office, the lady i talked to totally didn't care.

i handed her my reciept, she took it and disappeared for about 5 minuites -- i think a bathroom break or something.

then she came back and told me that "it hadn't been delivered yet" ... well duh.

she said i only purchased "Delivery Confirmation," and that the giant "Tracking Number" printed on my reciept isn't a tracking number. she said that even though it said it estimated delivery last wednesday (hence me paying for priority mail service) that it was just an estimate and that i can't do anything until 30 days after i mail my package.

WTF?!?

this will be the last time i ever use USPS for a package, what a bunch of crap.

i think i might go back later tonight when that wench isn't working anymore and talk to someone else.

Re: USPS lost my package, what can i do?

I had the same thing happen to me, kinda. My package showed up 2 weeks later. The same thing showed up on their webpage, showing that the number was invalid. I went there to find out what was going on and they told me the same thing, that Priority Mail isn't guarenteed and that until it hits the 30 day mark they won't do anything. I would be willing to bet you'll still get your package, it'll just be a while. This happened to me during some peak shipping time though(I think near Valentines day or something). Unfortunately all you can do is try to be patient, it'll get there eventually.

Im pretty sure if you use USPS priority mail, your package is automatically insured for $100, atleast used to it was that way.

[DHL]I've been having good success with my packages and I highly recommend the company.[/DHL] It sucks that the people who work in these places honestly don't give two ****s about what happens to your package.

same thing happened to me, go back to the post office and get the name of the post master for that location, send him 2 letters a week. He will get back to you, it took me 9 letters and he mailed me back.

Re: USPS lost my package, what can i do?

I sold a torque converter and shipped it USPS, not priority but whatever their heavy package type was. Anyway, they lost that sucker. It was a heavy **** and I figure it probably tore up the packaging (even though I tried to pack it well and used more tape than should be legal, lol) and got misplaced.

Anyway, yeah you have to wait 30 days, then you fill out some paperwork. I insured mine however and was able to get all my money back. If you didn't insure it and they don't do an automatic $100 then I guess you're out of luck. I'd always make sure you insure everything, too much stuff gets either lost or stolen.

And yeah, the tracking numbers the USPS uses are useless even if you pay for the service. In my experience stuff doesn't show up in their system until well after it's actually been delivered. Now UPS and Fedex tracking stuff seems to work well from what I've seen. Textbooks are the only thing I'll use the USPS for anymore and I still insure those...

Re: USPS lost my package, what can i do?

The only packages I ever send via USPS are texbooks and only because media mail only costs 2.26 or so. I shipped about 500 last summer, they probably lost 50. Pretty much all delivery confirmation does is let you know they lost your package. USPS = T3H suck.

this story certainly seems appropriate:
