Spinoff: finding mint condition dash is a PITA, any tips?

I'm looking to find a mint condition ebony (2000-2002) dash and I haven't had any luck yet. Of course shipping would be a pain so it likely has to be local (Milwaukee-Chicago-Madison) but if I ever find one:

It is missing pieces

It has cracks or sunfading or smoke fading

Buyer is too far away / won't ship / etc

So, does anyone have any good tips on how to find one? Are junkyards, cz28/other f-body sites, or craigslist the best bet?

I thought you could still get one from the dealer for big bucks? No?

Re: Spinoff: finding mint condition dash is a PITA, any tips?

I bought my dash pad from the dealer and it was $$$$$. if you need the whole dash for some reason, then I'd wait for someone on the midwest section of ls1tech start parting one out and buy it off them. I swapped in a mint 2000 camaro dash into my thirdgen, just had to buy a new dash pad because mine shattered when I cut it down to fit the thirdgen windshield.

You're not local though and I don't have my hookup to receive stuff on pallets anymore. But if you can figure something out for shipping it...

Greyhound. You just have to pick it up from the Greyhound station. It can be faster and cheaper than UPS/FedEX/etc.

I'll even lead you to the water on this one, Rox...

Its 491 bucks on GM Parts Direct. Shouldn't cost you more than 100 shipping, but GMPD routinely rapes customers on shipping. Try Jason Cromer instead. He'll give you a better shipping price for sure and can help you with availability and color. There was no part number, though it seems that they have it in stock (I searched for 2002 Camaro Z28).

Enter the year/model and then go to "body hardware." Click on "see all 52 part diagrams" and its about the 6th row down in the 2nd column.

Yo can even use my personal how to page to help during the swap :

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/345879...-camaro/page-3

For what its worth, my dash was missing an a/c vent and I ordered a part from the dealer. They only listed one part number and it turned out to be graphite, not black. It was only 1 piece so I just painted it myself, but if you're stuck with graphite you might look into having a local shop dye it for you, though you will have a grand in the dash by that time most likely.

FYI: When I parted out my car I shipped the dash via FedEx ground. It cost 60 bucks or so to go from Texas to Atlanta or some place about the same distance. Not too bad. Just a little work to prep the box.

Holy crap that thing is $1445.00 list. Dealer cost is $823.90. Didn't realize that they were that expensive still.

Good luck on finding that used one!

Ok is $491 for just the dash and the AC vents? Does it include the top pad, a pillars, bezels, glove box or any of that? That's ouchy if it doesn't

NM I looked. Looks like it's only the dash and vents and glove box and not much else.

Is it bad that I cut one up with a sawsall to make it fit in the garbage just before christmas?
It was charcoal color, but still mint.

Go to the junkyard and flash alittle cleavage and talk to the guys.

Don't forget there is a whole world of v6s out there in junkyards. Though majority might be a little beat up.

I tried the junkyard around here... or at least one of the junkyards around here that is known to have the most f-bodies and they didn't have a single 2000+ car... V6 or otherwise. Many of their 93-99 cars were left out to rot too. Open windows = rain + snow + sun on the dash =
