SEALs Rescue Aid Workers

Navy SEALs raid rescues Somalia aid workers - CNN.com

Anyone see this story? Another act of bravery from our armed services! I couldn't imagine being dropped off in a hostile country to fufill a mission like this. Failure is not an option in instances like these.

I'm glad to see that the hostages made it home safe.

Re: SEALs Rescue Aid Workers

I'm sure the somali's were prepared for what they were up against as well.

I wonder how many of them ran like hell when they figured out what was going on.

Not that I have any military experience or anything but my gut says it happened so fast they were just figuring out what was going on as their bodies went limp on the way to the ground.

They're trying to make up for 10 years worth of "issues." Nice job though. I hope they continue to improve.

You do realize that just because they're part of the same team that conducted the UBL raid, doesn't mean that they're the same troop? Not only that, but there were a number of SF type organizations involved.

Are you referring to the SEAL team? If so, can you elaborate?

No.
I should have added that these are not skilled people they are poor people turning to crime for a quick buck.
The spirit of my reply was that when faced with such skilled military force chaos ensued on the part of the bad guys and they were dropping like flies before they could understand and really respond.

Of course if you have information that I am wrong you can just say that. No need to elaborate, I do not believe we need to know a lot about tactics and such. Though I do find it all very interesting and do some reading of modern warfare books written by the guys who were there.

They have some nice PR, but they have had some teething issues since 9-11 doing missions that are outside of their typical training. They caused a lot of issues being over zealous and have had to answer for their actions on numerous instances. Not very different than some of the issues MARSOC has had in recent years.

ROE on SF isn't nearly as restrictive as it is on general purpose forces. When one group routinely gets a Spectre as CAS and the other has to wait on reply from God himself to call in a simple 105 arty, it's not really apples to apples. Given the type of work NSW has had to do in the last 11 years, they've simply been out of their comfort zone.
