In the market for a new Radar Detector. Any suggestions?
Got my very first speeding ticket for the first time in my life last week. To make sure I make it through my 3 month probation/court supervision I want to get a radar detector and have that going while I'm driving.
My new job has me on the road a lot and I'm willing to spend some money on a decent one.
Any thoughts or suggestions on where to look?

Valentine 1 $413~ unless you live in ohio, then $439 (taxes)- Been top dog for a LONG time (since the early 90's) however, it now has real competition! What you get with the V1
Excellent range
Directional arrows (these are not just a gimmik, they pwn)
Bogey counter (tells you how many signals you getting)
Quick Trigger protection matched by next to no one
Laser sensitivity is the best basically there is (but DO NOT let this be a deciding factor, if your hit by laser your 98% of the time getting a ticket by the time it alerts).
Escort Redline - Supiror range on all bands X,K,KA compared to the V1 (only by a few hundred feet, and sometimes the V1 still wins, a 100 feet is about a second at the speed limit.
Features
Totally emissionless (can not be detected, ever, this only matters if you live in VA, or outside the US).
More modern looking, a few less falses
Cons: A serious lack of Quick trigger detecting (a technique of using a radar gun some LEO's use)
$500 (if you do a trade in program, or maybe find a coupon code it can be had for less).
No arrows (the arrows really do pwn)
No good bogey counter (all it says is multiple signals, does not say how many or where they are)
Now if you want a more budget, yet badass detector you need a refurbished passport 8500 for $150, it comes with normal full factory warranty and are very good, ill find the ebay link to the beltronics store or escort forget who makes them, same company...
wouldn't it be cheaper to just not speed to the point that you have to worry about getting a ticket? a radar detector will probably just give you a false sense of security anyways.

I assumed he just wanted this for a *just in case* point, I drive everyday with a RD (V1) and I always be cautious because the shear amount of laser being used, unless your in an area you know does not use laser, you need to keep your eyes wide open at all times and use extreme caution.
So... really he needs a RD and a laser jammer (Laser Interceptor, or blinder).
Just to give you an idea on range high end detectors get, I got a 1.6 mile detection the other day going down a mildy curvy road that runs a long a river.
The arrows are gay. V1 and Redline both false A HELL OF A LOT.
Get the 9500ix and be done with it.
I have a good friend who is a die hard V1. I rode in his car for about 5 miles one weekend. Every god damn 30 seconds he was reaching up to mute his v1. For me that would ruin driving.
i just see them as a waste of money when it's easy enough to just slow down a little bit.
Everyone speeds. I try my best not to, and I've been close to having my license suspended. A few minor slip ups over the period of several months and all of a sudden you have to hire a traffic lawyer.

+1. I got mine almost 2 years ago, and haven't had a ticket since.
I think we need to go about this a different way...
Do you do mostly highway, or mostly city?
If you do mostly city with a lot of door openers etc, no way id run the V1 it would be going absolutely bonkers due to it being so sensitive, but on the highway it's the king.
If you do a lot of city driving, 9500IX will be your buddy, lacks some range, and arrows, but that lock out feature, speed camera, redlight camera database pwns.
On a side note, claiming the arrows as gay is...lack of a V1 moment.
I still stand on my passport 8500 refurb claim, were talking a massive price range here lol.
Also, instant on is a real threat everywhere, I run into it constantly, even more than I do constant on radar.
However, the arrows are a gimmick at best. Do you really need to know where the signal is coming from? Not really.
Why?
Because in MOST cases the signal is infront of you at one point and you pass by it. Almost every time I've ever had mine go off the cop is sitting on the side of the road, around a bend or on the other side of a hill. Not once have I ever needed an arrow to tell me I should slow down. You hear the beep - you slow down. It's that simple.
Here in CT, in the 14 or so years that I've been driving I have seen police on the highway doing speed traps less then 5 times!! It's always the local town police that are setup checking speed. They even got me a few times. Not since I've owned a radar detector!
One thing that you really don't realize before owning a 9500ix: with all my other radar detectors I became used to them going off at certain places, hearing the same beeps over and over everyday. I therefore started to ignore the warnings and when it was a real cop it was a second or two till I actually realized this might be the real deal.
With the ix, it learned all the falses in about 2 weeks of driving in my area. Now, if I hear that noise I hit the brakes asap. I'm not used to it going off so it just makes it that much more clear that I've gotta slow down!
- I wish they would have put a gps chip in the red line, confused why they didn't.
