I was borderline with them after the whole moving to China for tool production...but now I don't think I will walk in another one again.
Long story short, bought a Plasma TV and Freezer from Sears in 2011. One of them was 0%, not sure why I put both on the Sears card but I did. Paid it off a few months ago.
I guess Sears charges interest daily (maybe all CCards do IDK). Anyways, they billed me for like $1.57. I do online payments so I canceled paper bills a long time ago. Thinking it was paid off I never signed back online. After 30 days they dinged me for a $10.00 late fee and it hit my credit report.
Worst part was I just applied for a loan (used car loan) and couldn't get the 3.95% because I had a recent late payment. WTF This is the only late payment I've had since college (over 8 years ago).
I know it's partially my fault as I didn't update my email address and they sent a notification email to an old email address...but if I pay off any of my other credit cards I don't get hit with this crap. Oh well, live and learn and my Sears card is getting shredded.

I'll check into it, I could care less about the $10 late fee; I already paid it off (AGAIN) after I found out...it's the hit on my credit that pisses me off.

I had a similar situation, except mine was for an annual fee that I didn't know I had. I don't have a very high limit on my Sears card, because I got it when I was 20 and had no credit. They billed me summer of '10 for an annual fee, I didn't open up the bill, because I knew I never used the card. They dinged me a $30 late fee and put it on my credit report. I called HSBC card services and it is finally off my credit report.

I don't know if they can fix that.

Sears Private Label cards are handled by Citi, if you call and talk to a rep they should fix it for you. If they don't ask for a manager, if they still don't ask what site they are at and then use this list to figure out who to ask for.
Matt Phelps - Boise
Matt Blazey - Greensboro
Ana Facemire - Tucson
The first and last time I bought anything on store (American Express) credit was with Macy's. I was going to float the money for a new bed on a 12 mos zero-interest deal and it got wildly screwed up. I got a bill in the mail 45 days after I bought the thing and the wrong type of account had been set up, I was being charged interest, etc. When I finally got hold of the right people, I was able to pay the thing in full over the phone, and then close out those accounts all in one call. I was surprised because once I finally hit the right folks (probably at a supervisory/manager level?) they were apologetic AND helpful (rare).

Yeah man, you should be able to get all that fixed. I understand you were upset, but a quick call could have fixed all that. Upon second thought maybe you shouldn't be done with Sears.
