How to get antifreeze smell out of carpet (heater core leaked)?

My '95 Z blew the heater core last week. I knew what had happened, and I managed to catch most of the antifreeze before it leaked onto my carpet, however, a small bit of it ran down into the passenger footwell. Well, I've cleaned and cleaned, and there's still a very small section that won't dry. I've already used water, and I run my heater wide open continuously to no avail.

What can I do to dry up this stuff, and more importantly, how in the world can I get rid of the nasty smell? It seriously makes me not want to drive the car because it stinks so bad. Please, some ideas, because Febreze auto spray ain't doing jack!

Pee on it. It won't smell like anti-freeze any more

Actually it's probably soaked the insulation under the carpet. Try to pull the section free and soak up as much under the insulation as you can then CAREFULLY dry the section of insulation and carpet with a hair dryer. Once it's completely dry the smell should be gone.

One more question: If I do decide to pull up the passenger-side carpet and dry everything, how do the kickpanels come loose?

Buy a Bissel Little Green Pro Heat steam cleaner. It's small and designed for steam cleaning car carpets.

I used a wet dry vac and pulled the carpet up, sucked all of the excess out of the padding, then the carpet, and febreezed it and was good to go. There was a lot too.
