Godammit, who invented online package tracking?

This is the worst invention ever for closet micromanagers like me. Previously, I'd just be sitting at home wondering when my iPod would show up. But now, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, I can sit at home and wonder why my iPod has been sitting at the same Sacramento location for three days.

I love it. I dispatch packages daily acorss the US and Canada. I love telling people that the camera they order was delivered two days ago.

You'd like Blade Tech then. I bought my new duty holster for work (they make the most awesome holsters) but they don't stock most items, they manufacture it when you order. And so, they warn that you may not get your item for a month.

I checked the online status almost every day, and it never changed. It still said "processing".

A few days ago though, FedEx pulled up in front of my house and delivered it.

The next day I got an email from Blade Tech letting me know the order was being shipped, and that my tracking number should be available within a few hours.

But at least I didn't have to track it all over the place, ehhh?

I'm just hoping that it really has left Sacramento and a loader just didn't scan it. I can't think of any good reason for a package to sit at a hub without moving.

I've had that happen to me though before. I ordered something from the east coast and the estimated arrival date was 5 days I think.

1 day later, it had crossed the country... and ended up in the UPS hub in Vernon, California. 2000 miles down, 100 to go. It looked like I was going to get my package 3 days early. I mean, it was only 100 miles away from me now, why not?

Well, it sat there in that hub until the 5 days had passed. On the 5th day, it showed up. It's like, hey *******, you paid for standard shipping. You think we're going to give it to you the next day? So what if we could have, we won't.

I've been tracking this package from Ridout Plastics for some acrylic solvent and its been 5 days since UPS received "shipping information" Status never changes, and the best part is I ordered it over a week ago. I ordered a 1pint jar of the stuff and a 25ga needle applicator. 2 parts, totaling like $18 and it takes more than a week to process and ship... Then I get no updates. Its probably sitting in Grand Rapids UPS facility and they aren't going to deliver it until this weekend. The funny thing is I work and drive BY the place every day.

Stupid online tracking...

They should randomly move them throughout the facility and scan them every 100ft or so.

I hope that one day they will integrate tracking with the GPS on the truck. Then rather than "package is out for delivery" we can see what exactly where it is and wind up spending the whole day hitting refresh hoping for it to head this way.
