Re: Is it even possible for the US to get out of debt?
Quick answer, yes it is possible. But I don't think politicians have the will to do what is necessary to make it happen because they may upset people and not get re-elected. Its all about job security for them. But most people are not willing to sacrifice anything to make it happen either. Take a look at Greece. Their county is collapsing financially but they riot in the streets because some of the goodies get reduced a little.
Re: Is it even possible for the US to get out of debt?
Many dont know that, but almost half of our national debt is to ourselves (mainly Social security), reforming social security can "eliminate" or delay the debt maybe forever.
when SS was enacted in 1936, the life expectancy was 59 on average and SS kicks in at 65, today life expectancy is ~80 and we did not adjust SS one bit.
technically, yes we can eliminate the debt in a little more than a decade, but it will require major balls and grown ups to run this country.

Go to war with the counties holding our dept... Like China...
Bomb the crap out of them, destroy their infrastructure, destroy their manufacturing abilities.... So companies would be forced to bring those jobs back into the US... Similar to what the US did after we destroyed the Japanese during ww2. With much of the debt gone, and products needs to be manufactured in the US, I think the debt would go down quite a bit

Not sure if serious....
Anyways, yes it is possible. You need cooperation from both sides. The left needs to accept the fact that they need to cut money from entitlements (all the free handouts), and the right needs to accept the fact that they need to cut money from overseas militarism. Take note: that doesn't mean from defense, that means from military waste. We are funding the defense for many countries. It is not necessary. Let them pay for their own defense.
You would be surprised at how much money could be saved just by cutting money from those two places.
Re: Is it even possible for the US to get out of debt?
The real question is "How do you get a bunch of politicians to act like fiscally responsible adults?"
The answer is "How do we elect people who will do what is best for our country and make tough, sometimes unpopular decisions, when there are more takers than givers, and there are politicians who, in an effort to stay in office and obtain/keep political power, capitalize on the fact that there is a growing class of people who want other people to take care of them (dependent class) and are willing to throw their vote to any libtard candidate who legitimizes their cause, no matter how pathetic and self serving?"
The other question is, "How do we get good people to run for office when they can make much more money in the private sector and don't want their lives and the lives of their families destroyed by the campaign/election process and the media?"
Re: Is it even possible for the US to get out of debt?
It's pretty tough. EVERYONE will have to sacrifice, the problem(as stated earlier in the thread) is voters are not willing to reelect someone willing to take hits that may effect them.
Cuts in social security, military, medicaid, infrastructure, social programs, you name it. Everyone's standard of living will have to come down. Until a vast majority is willing to give, we'll just keep limping along.
