Primary Arms are GTG, I've run them before and they get good reviews on AR15. If you are in a life or death situation, sure, go ahead and spend more on your optics than your gun, but for a hunter, casual shooter there's no need.
Yep, I looked at reviews on AR15.com, and narrowed it down between primary arms and vortex. I chose the primary arms because its almost a direct clone of the aimpoint.
I wanted to try out an optic but i didnt want to spend the $500 or more for a top of the line piece because I wasn't even sure if I would like it. Turns out I shoot just as well using a tritium post in my front sight as I did with the optic. I chose to stay with the irons.
Whatever optic you get I'd also recommend getting a good set of flip up irons as a backup.
You did the right thing. I had a bushmaster carbon that I eventually switched to metal upper and lower. The polymer just didnt hold up too well and it wasnt very reliable. New upper and lower and it runs great.
I have an M&P 15 that I bought in about '08 or '09 and have about 2500 trouble free rounds through it. Its my favorite ar and also my patrol rifle.
What kind of red dot are you looking for? I have a primary arms multi-reticle red dot and a 3x magnifier both with mounts that I'm looking to sell. The primary arms red dots look similar to aimpoints.
I to get a red dot that doesnt look like a normsl scope, but any would work for what im using it for lol (home defense, defense while walking on 49 acres, zombie apocalypse and fun )
