Headers and exhaust questions

Headers and exhaust questions
I have a 96 z-28 and I was reading The forums and all and was wondering if pace setters are the ideal ones for my car I'm going to be buying some flowmaster 40 series from a buddy of mine and don't know what the best headers are and if the x pipe makes a difference either

Re: Headers and exhaust questions
I wouldn't look at brands until you know what you want.
Do you want long tubes, mids, or shorties?
Do you want stainless, ceramic coated or painted?
Do you want the nicest product you can afford, the cheapest, or the best "bang for the buck?"
Any emissions to worry about?
Etc.

Long tubes and I think their ceramic coated because on eBay the pacesetters are the cheapest I found and well I'm in Texas so I do have to worry about emissions but only a little bit have to worry about check engineering lights more

Re: Headers and exhaust questions
I have the ceramic PaceSetter LT's on my '96, and they were easy to install, all I really had to do was drop the starter and they went in smooth. I also got the Y-pipe from PaceSetter to delete the cats. I did all this when I upgraded my valvetrain, exhaust, intake and some other goods, and wow!! Sounds waay better, and my underhood temps have dropped considerably. As for bang for the buck, I am extremely happy with my headers fit, looks and performance! As for the SES light, I had my downstream O2 sensors deleted from the ECM when I had it tuned, so it's not an issue. Any questions?

Re: Headers and exhaust questions
OP-
Pacesetters, IMO are pretty good bang for the buck but assuming they are still in production it'd probably be worth it to spend a little more on the LPP headers as they are stainless and the won't rust like ceramic will. Pacesetters, IMO are also one of the long tubes that tend to tuck up pretty well which is nice if you're worried about ground clearance.
If you don't plan on running cats and are going to delete AIR/EGR, make sure to get those tuned out as well as the rear o2 sensors.

Re: Headers and exhaust questions
Well I went to a muffler shop and he said he's never seen true duals on a Camaro since the fuel lines that run underneath so I'm going to have to go somewhere else but what all do I need to change to run them?

Re: Headers and exhaust questions
Plenty of guys have run true duals on 4th gens- either the pipes ran together alongside each other or down each side and dumped before the axle.
Quick question- why do you want true duals? The hp gain is debatable between a good cat-back and true duals on a relatively stock motor.

There's a "sticky" at the top of this forums topic listing with numerous photos of true duals on 4th Gens.....

Re: Headers and exhaust questions
I've looked at the photos and all so I know it can be done someone I know told me about a shop where he got his done and so ill just go there and I want the true duals I don't plan on keeping it all stock

Re: Headers and exhaust questions
Ok so I have the flowmaster 40 series already I was wondering about the o2 sensors can any tuner do it or a actual shop? To remove them from the ecm or is there a way to keep them?
Edit* just re read the post so I can keep the cats which is good

Re: Headers and exhaust questions
It depends on if you plan on keeping your cats or not. If you delete your cats, there's no point in keeping your down stream O2 sensors as they wpould read no different than the up stream O2 sensors, and I would have them tuned out of the ECM. However, if you decide to keep cats and get an aftermarket exhaust without the provisions for downstream O2 sensors, you can have the exhaust shop weld bungs in the pipe after the cats, allowing you to keep your O2 sensors. Bottom line, if you're worried about emissions you'll haveto keep them, but if you aren't, I would go without cats and get rid of the rear O2 sensors. The choice is yours!

Re: Headers and exhaust questions
Well for now I'm going to keep the cats and the o2 sensors then eventually I'm going to get headers and then do true duals I know ill be spending more money but I think its the smartest way to go at the moment

Re: Headers and exhaust questions
I'd just leave it alone for the moment then do it all at once. Get the headers installed then get the 02's tuned out (as well as AIR/EGR if applicable) when you have the headers installed then take it to an exhaust shop / welder to have the duals fabbed up.
