Which Header Type?

Re: Which Header Type?
I used the DEI Ultra Starter Shield for the starter that came out a couple years ago so I didn't have to wrap any part of my headers. It's flexible, trimmable and secures with Velcro. Works a lot better than the standard starter heat shields. Never had a problem.

Re: Which Header Type?
I was thinking about that too. Did you just use the DEI wrap on the portion of wire that went below the header too?
The scary heat thing is the plug for the wheel sensor, that is a long way away from the header, and still melted in half.

Re: Which Header Type?
When you get back to the Y-pipe, and run into issues with fuel lines, localized header wrap is not as big an issue, since temperatures drop rapidly through the exhaust system.

Yes, I even used it on the temp sensor wire on the head which practically sits right next to the primary and still have yet to have an issue with melted wire.
Injuneer is, of course, correct about the y-pipe issue. I still did what I did as a precaution. I also wrapped my trans cooler lines that run near the headers too and they are probably already sufficiently distanced away.

Re: Which Header Type?
Thank you for all of the info (and apologies for the minor hijack). I just ordered the BMR kmember today and picked up the DEI starter cover and some extra wrap yesterday. I figure this will give me some extra room to reroute the wires where they loop below the header and drop weight in the car. I will start a new thread and get some pictures taken during the process.
