cannot stop leak at collector/ypipe
Alright guys I have jethot headers with a custom ypipe including two high flow cats. The confess on the header collectors were removed to make it slip fit so the collector would slide into the cats. Well ant type of clamp I use I cannot get the pipes to seal. It's annoying. Any body have any opinion on how to stop the leaks bc I really don't want to weld them lol.
Thank u,
Bobby

What did you remove from the collectors?
Have you tried a stainless steel, pre-formed band clamp?

I'm sorry the flange was taken off the collectors to make them slip fit. I have one of those clamps on the passenger side I'm sure with slight tweaking I may be able to stop the leak but on the driver side there isn't enough room to put one of this clamps on bc of the o2 sensor.

I was actually thinking of doing that. I wasn't sure if it would mess with the integrity of the clamp. So on the side that I did actually get the clamp on it leaks slightly where the clamp comes together. Would this be solved by creating a seal with some high temp rtv or something like that bc I did notice that there was some black sticky sealant type material on Tue section of the clamp that bolts together.
Thank you injuneer I appreciate it.

I'd use something like a string of graphite impregnated valve packing material. Wrap a couple turns around the seam, and then try and install the band clamp. The main problem with the packing is that it used to be asbestos based and held up to very high temperatures. Now they use polymers and PTFE and it won't stand up to high exhaust temps. Check a plumbing supply store. They should have high temp material used for high pressure steam valves.
I used to have a roll of the asbestos stuff that was about 50 years old, but I don't remember where it is.
