Bigger Y-Pipe 2 1/5 to 3 inch

Well I know this question has been asked a million times, but here goes. Can a Y-pipe from a 1995-1997 fit (with minor modifications) into a 93 Z28.After that I'll do the carb thing with the cat 3" inlet and out,3" intermediate and 3" muffler in and out.(Or maybe not out). All stock for now. There are a few recycling places here where I can probably pick one up cheap. Many thanks.

Unclear what you are trying to accomplish.

Are you using the 95 - 97 Y-pipe because you want to convert to dual cats? Actually, 95 is dual-cat only for CA emissions A4 cars. But all 96/97 are dual-cat. The dual-cat Y-pipe has the driver's side cat welded into the Y-pipe where it bolts to the large triangular flange on the driver side exhaust manifold. Then it has the passenger side cat further down in the passenger branch of the Y, under the hump in the passenger side floor. Then the 2 branches come together and attach directly to the intermediate pipe.

To connect a dual-cat Y to a single cat intermediate, I believe you need an "S" pipe to mate them up.

Or are you just under the impression that there is a significant diameter difference between your 93 Y-pipe and a 95-97 Y-pipe?

Are you attempting to keep a catalytic converter with a carb conversion? Won't work very well. The fuel injection PCM swings the A/F ratio back and forth between slightly rich and slightly lean, to allow the cat to accumulate O2 when it is lean, and breaks down NOx to nitrogen and oxygen, and then use the accumulated O2 to oxidize the unburned HC and CO into water and carbon dioxide when it is slightly rich.

Re: Bigger Y-Pipe 2 1/5 to 3 inch

Many thanks Injuneer. As always, you know your stuff. And I appreciate you being here for all these years. The car is beautiful and I wanna stay carb legal. So I will do some kind of intake stuff, coolant bypass, maybe a catback exhaust system. It's a 1993 Z28 with GU5 setup,no power seats, cloth seats,no push button rear lid opener(miss that a lot)Hardtop, auto trans(non electric)Air cond.Works real well , power windows and cruise control. No rips, tears or any ware inside, but mechanically neglected.Changed plugs(NGK plats),new wires, changing trans fluid (all of it),rear end needs service too.Radiator needs flushing and new hoses. Not a daily driver so I can take my time fixing everything. Many thanks,Jim.

OK - By "carb thing" (which is often used to indicate a "carburator") you actually meant "CARB" (California Air Resources Board).

Not clear where you live. Do you live in California, hence the CARB requirement, or do you live in a state that uses the CARB equipment list to determine what aftermarket parts are emissions legal?
