Re: 1996 Z28 Catalytic Converters still good?
I replaced the plugs on my car and when I reconnected negative cable my ses light did not come back on and hasn't in over a hundred mile .Is this normal or did I inadvertently fix my po430 code

According to the service manual, the tests for P0420 or P0430 have to fail for an "extended period of time" before setting a fail code, but the manual doesn't specify how long that can be. It's possible you haven't driven it under the right conditions for the test to have been done. Did you check the Catalyst readiness status to see if it has been run? Even the cheapest OBD2 scanners have to display those somehow.
I have had the P0420 failure on and off for the last year, sometimes going months without a failure.

If your cats are hollowed out, you are going to get the codes. They wouldn't magically be fixed by resetting the PCM. You also won't pass a tailpipe emissions test without the cats.
I've seen some people claim they used "spark plug spacers" on the after-cat O2 sensor bungs, to move the O2 sensors out of the exhaust stream, and they were able to eliminate the codes. About the cheapest solution.

The codes for the cats do not affect how the engine runs. The factory manual makes some references to minor fuel adjustments when the codes set, but I never heard of anyone noticing any difference.
