transmission shift problem

I have a 95 z28 with an automatic transmission. When accelerate through first gear I have to let off the gas before it will shift to second. I have heard it needs a sensor changed. Can anyone confirm this or tell me what I need to do. I am no transmission guy so any help would be appreciated.

Re: transmission shift problem

Is the transmission capable of shifting through all the gears? Many times when this complaint pops up it's because the transmission is actually making a 1-3 shift. If it is making all the shifts, you might want to check your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) voltage. You should have .5 Volts at idle and roughly 4.5 Volts at WOT. What condition is the fluid in? Is it dark or does it smell burnt?
