Trans or rear end?

I need a little help troubleshooting. 97 Z with 6 speed. I have owned it for a little over a year. It's has always grinder into 5th and 6th. Drove it home from Vegas a few months ago and it started to get a very loud whine. Tranny is full of fluid. I need help trying to figure out if it's the differential going out or the transmission. When I drive it now, when I leave the line, it's like the parking brake is set and releases after I get it moving. Something is about to lock up!

Thanks for the help.

Re: Trans or rear end?

Did you check the fluid level in the diff?
