TH350 Adjusting Shifter - Need help

I have a TH350, horseshoe floor shift, and I need some guidance on how to properly adjust things.

When I move the shifter, Park, Neutral, Reverse line up correctly. When I then move from Reverse to what should be 3, the car doesn't move. It seems like its in Neutral, or at least not in any gear. I have to move it all the way back to 2 before it engages.

Does anyone know what I need to do to get things lined up right? Is this a known problem that has an easy fix?

I am planning on ordering a kit from Jake's Performance Transmissions. Will this affect the shift?

Here is how you adjust the cable on a 4L60E. Not sure how similar your cable adjustment is, but the procedure should be about the same. Get the console shift lever in neutral and the detent lever on the trans in neutral and adjust the cable until it slips on the detent lever.
