rebuild my m6 or buy one?

the only thing that works in my m6 is 3rd gear, i called D&D they told me they had one for $2700 with no core required good to about 550 horsepower. i found a place that will rebuild it for $375 plus parts (there is no telling how many parts mine will need).
right now i'm at 480 rwhp & 590rwt because of spray & am looking to go to boost or boost & spray in the near future. which tranny option would you guys recommend? thx

If you are at 480 hp now, then you would really be pushing that 550 rateing. You might want to check around if you plan on going with boost. keep us posted on what you do.

I had my M6 modded by D&D 4 yrs ago. It is still operational. Cost was about $600.00 less shipping. I am local to D&D. I did install a Moser 12. Broke the 7 1/2". (app... 97ss M6 D1 383)

Just for a price comparison; I bought my M6 completely trashed for $80.
Bought the premium master rebuild kit on ebay which has every wear item plus Timken bearings for $495. Then I bought new 1, 2, 3, 5, and R gears. Each was around $200 each. Then I bought upgrades like bronze pads for the forks and the steel 3-4 folk itself. About another $200 for that stuff. In all about $1700 in parts. I rebuilt it myself using just the online pdf file. Never rebuilt one before and in fact the trans was completely disassemblied when I bought it. I had no clue how it went together not having taken it apart. Just shows you it is doable for a diy guy.

If the D&D one has the Viper output conversion and is a new trans with the bronze pads and steel folk it would be a fair deal imo.

Though; have you considered converting to an auto? Ya know; clutch kits for that sort of hp are like 1K alone.

no way man dont give up the 6 speed!

my new combo should be making about 550+ on a 150 shot and i have an m6 and was wondering the same thing. what i had basically decided on was to just start stocking up used factory t56's. if you search around there's guys running 10's even 9's with untouched trannies. even if i blow 5 of them still cheaper then buying 1 thats rated for tons of hp

you could start saving for a viper spec t56. that will handle your power outputs and you can get them for between 2500-3000 im not exactly sure

yea, $2700 seems a little steep too me. If you do your own work I think you could get out a lot cheaper than that and have a stronger unit in the end. That is what i would do if it were me, but then again I do all the work on my car because I am a cheap @$$! Like mentioned earlier, maybe if you don't have the money right now to do it 'right', you could just by a used stock one and run it until you have the $ for a good rebuild. A T56 is pretty strong from the factory so that would last a good little while until you could afford a nice upgrade.
