Rear Gear and Stall Guys Inside Please!

Rear Gear and Stall Guys Inside Please!
I have a 2800-stall converter with a 2.73 rear gear. I've had the converter for a while. The car has no light throttle lunge at all because of the converter and is an absolute dog on the highway. Would a 3.73 help the accleration? I don't get to the track much anymore which was the whole reason I got the converter in the first place. It does help the times when it's able to hook!
I thought about going back to the stock converter to get the "everyday" fun of driving it back. But if the gear will help... then I'm all for it!
Thanks in advance!

We have very similar mods let alone same year car and tranny. I have a SLP 2800 and a set of Motive 3.42's. It's great, feels like the stocker for everyday driving, but really kicks it when you get on it. See my sig for times(60ft was 1.8). Still downshifts into 2nd gear on the freeway at just under 65mph and it will shred the tires from a dig.

Hey,
Those gears are way too high. If you can get a 3.08 and higher carrier, I have a set of 3.42's I'd seel cheap. Stock out of a '94 but are in perfect condition. Car had 90,000 miles when I swapped them for 4.10's (6-speed). Reply if interested, anyone.

My Caprice drove great with 2.93 and a 2800 Edge, but poorly with an Art Carr 2600 and the 2.93s. I know my ratio is not quite the same but my car is heavier, I have a ZZ3 cam so it is bigger than an f-body stocker so I would call it all a wash, with a good converter your car should feel good even with the 2.73s, but will feel better with the 3.73s. I recently swapped in 3.42s, and traction is definetely more of a problem now, not that that is a bad thing. I don't know anything about your TC builder, but do know the high STR converters Edge puts together drive awesome, and make a big difference at the track, some of that is just rotating weight reduction their TCs weight like half stock. Was your new TC a 12" like stock or a 9.5"?
Gears will make the car a bit more fun, but I think with TC and gears whichever you do first makes the biggest difference.

If you go to a 3.73 gear and stall you will not be able to hook them on normal tires.......The first week i had my TC and gears i was pulled over twice....once for spinning them....was still getting use to it (half-throttle) and another because "I was accelerating to fast". Let's just say you can't just put it down to the floor on the street like with a 2.73 gear.......at stop lights i have to let it shift to 2nd before i can hammer it.

If your looking for that seat of the pants thrill when you are just playing around with the car then the 3.73 gear will give you that.
I run 3.73s and a TCI 2800 stall and its fun just playing around with it, traction is an issue though. I had to put in a BMR TA and relocation brackets and an Eibach drag launch kit and Nittos to get the car to hook.

The diameter is a little smaller than stock. Not sure how much though. It is manufactured by Midwest.

I pull 1.90 sixty foots now with the Nittos, I run 20 lbs in the tires and I do not heat them very much, Its got a better sixty in it I just have to quite babying it at the track.
On the street its a killer now, I can put 2 or 3 cars on people faster than me and they have to play catch up.
I know I win alot more races now with the suspension stuff.
Very happy I did that stuff before the new motor goes in.
