Re: Moser Rearend Vibration

Any resolution to this?!?!?
I just installed a 12 bolt from Moser with the Spohn Rod ended Adj , it is vibing at 60+MPH.
I put on different wheels/tires and it is still there. I also changed PHRs too and no difference.

Re: Moser Rearend Vibration

I got a 12 bolt moser, spohn tq arm, spohn driveshaft all at the same time near the end of 03 and I have the same problem and it is driving me INSANE! I talked to Steve Spohn and he told me it couldn't be the driveshaft, I've since had it rebalanced just incase and it isn't the driveshaft, I've tried different rims and tires new with fresh balance, so I now know it has to be somewhere in the rear end or maybe the tranny but the tranny doesn't make much sense. I've spent weeks under my car adjusting stuff and this problem hasn't changed at all with anything I've done. I guess next I open the rear end but after so long with dealing with this crap I think I'm taking it to a local performance shop and just saying fix it. I've also hammered my driveshaft tunnel and modded the spohn tq arm to use the inner 2 holes to give more clearance and this did nothing for the vibration. Everyday since I got this Moser I wish I got a Strange.

An old thread but I wonder if anyone has ever figured out what this type of vibration is.

I've tried
  • 2 different driveshafts (of different lengths too)
  • stock torque arm vs. edelbrock
  • phb adjustment
  • new gears, and bearings
  • checked for "run-out"
  • changed yolk, etc.
  • even shimmed tranny up and down to change angle
  • different wheels
  • checked for all measurements to spec

Nothing has changed other than the amount of $$$ in my pocket

I found that my torque arm was touching the DS tunnel very slightly. I wrapped a 2 lbs steel hammer with rags and got some clearance. I chased the vibration for a while, and making some room was my last step.
Problem solved.

Good Luck.

Checked for any knocking from the Torque Arm.

We did find an area where it rubbed a little.... and knocked it out.

The vibration is still there. We even tried adjusting the Panhard Bar to move the Torque Arm even further away from the point where it may hit... with no improvement.

I have tried driving around and putting my hands to the floor to feel where the vibration is coming from... but it seems to be reverberating everywhere.

Funny thing is if I am in the cars vibration "sweet spot" at around 80mph, and lift my foot off the gas... the vibration stops. Only during partial throttle (load) does it vibrate so bad.
